Okay,
I had a conversation with a guy the other day who told me he had an 08 Mega that he had sent to Banks and put 20k into the motor and tranny and that he put down over 1100hp and 1750tq. I know there are strong 6.7s out there but I have yet to hear of one that is putting down those kinds of #s. So what y'all think?
Was this fella smoking something or what? He came across as honest or maybe just naive. Heck, maybe I'm the naive one.
:what:

I would follow this procedure:
1) ask him for a copy of the dyno sheet
2) wait for the excuses to fly

If banks built a 1100HP 6.7 for a customer, I would think the price tag would be well past 20K coming from that shop.

Not too likely, I dont think you could build a 5.9 with a tranny for 20k. But I dont think that there is any 6.7's over 1000 yet, but not for long

What you should've done

Stopped him in mid sentence, said "no", and then walked away.

or if his girl was there, just mutter and say "yeah uh huh. sure"

That's the most sound advice. :D Usually when someone starts rambling stuff like that, we offer them a free invite to one of our dyno events and offer a free roll on the dyno if it makes the number they claim. Haven't had one take us up on the offer yet. :D

Seriously, I built a clone to mine for a customer the other month. The price came in around 20K, but keep in mind I cut him a huge break for getting the whole package done at once. And I am not charging nowhere near the price of banks. I would definitely have to say that for banks to do a project like that they would be considerably higher priced.

definitly a negative on that one:umno: MAYBE:nos:

I love talking to guys like that, I let them go on and on and when they are finally done, I ask one simple question. WANNA RACE?:rockwoot:
Never had one take me up on it yet. jay

Gotta love those guys. I don't bite my tongue though. I make them tell me everything that is done, and if they can't do it I'll chew them out and call BS.

Three problems with the claim 1100 HP and 1750 TQ
1. At 1100 HP, the 6.7 rods fail due to the roughly 2500-3000+ ft lb of torque it would make. Thus the 1750 torque claim is ludicrous.
2. There is not a tranny strong enough for the 6.7 to hold that much HP.
3. Green-Earth Friendly Banks would not touch the emission system on a street driven vehicle. No way 1100 HP could flow through the DPF.

I take it all back, I read in Diesel Power that Banks make the best tuner for the 6.7, it lowers smoke and increases power. For 20K, you can probably stack 20 banks tuners and make 1100 HP with 1/20th the stock smoke and lower than stock EGT's.*bdh*

I think the only 6.7 up to that power. Was Browns with the 5.9 injectors and ECM.

1. At 1100 HP, the 6.7 rods fail due to the roughly 2500-3000+ ft lb of torque it would make. True, already has happened almost a year and a half agoThus the 1750 torque claim is ludicrous.
2. There is not a tranny strong enough for the 6.7 to hold that much HP.you are wrong on that one. good ole 48 does the trick3. Green-Earth Friendly Banks would not touch the emission system on a street driven vehicle. No way 1100 HP could flow through the DPF.bingo on that one

correct. there are a couple p pumped versions out but as far as actually showing dyno numbers you are correct my friend.
