Hey guys I am building my 12 valve CPL-2175 97 manual truck. I have read alot on the internet about pistons and think its only made me more confused lol.. I called my local cummins deal and was quoted 180 each for stock replacements in a .020 over bore.. Id like to run something better if there is another option.

So if there is something you all think is a better option please chime in and let me know..

Thanks in advance...

What will you be doing with the truck and what horsepower were you shooting for? Also, contact user Snedge here as he is a cummins dealer with sweet prices. Welcome to CompD!

Well I tow alot and wanna be able to drag it and daily drive it...

Currently it runs 13.0's at 5280ft..

Setup is ATS 3k/5K compounds. 5k gov springs, 0plate, big DV valves, DDP140's, CFM intake bounet, studded, 22* timing, 3 stage meth kit, spearco intercooler, 6 inch exhaust..

I just wanna know what the best piston would be to go with.

After all my reading I dont see much difference and would like some guidance in picking the right set.

from what i've learned there is no need to change pistons unless its blown up, you can run 11's with the truck and tow with it alot on stock pistons. unless your running really high boost. so what are you wanting to do with truck specifically run 11? make 650-700hp on fuel on?? we need to know more about the use of the truck.

Stock pistons are fine.

How fast are you wanting to go in the 1/4?

Best depends on what you do with the truck...

Number six got hot lol.. Need to go .020 over.. And I made almost 800 on fuel only... I just want to spend my money right. Read alot about marine pistons and wanna know if they are better or the same.. 11's in denver are harder than most think Are DA is more like 6,000ft and above.. I would like mid to low 12's up here... Im making about 80lbs at this altitude on a map sensor...

So far I am going to run the 24v oil pump.. CR tappets, and have the rods cryo treated. Buying the thicker casted cummins head and getting it fire ringed...

Custom delivery valves that are big.... Everyone told me I couldnt make over 70lbs with it either but it is... I also have the good injection pump....

Keep in mind that 13.03 was run with 37's and 3.55 gear...

Why do I read about the marine pistons... I saw some where some come with coating n such

I melted a piston due to overheatin and no coolant.. Blew the head gasket and choose to drive it home with no coolant.. I knew it was gonna happen wanted a reason to build it.

Not worried about the pump.. My question is about the pistons..

wow just wow, your running possibly the worst setup i have ever heard, :hehe:

you should really listen to the people on here giving you help, you may think you have got the goods but from your list they sound a little spoiled

Ok So about my original question.. Are the marine 370 pistons better?

And if the pump fails witch I dont see happening I have another stock pump and a Columbus Diesel Supply Billet Sigma Pump. But I dont seeing the Sigma pump good for anything other than full race

How do you have this pump just sitting around? There has to be a reason you have it just sitting around.
This was from TS.
