12 valve engine build pros

god your avatar is great, well I'm cutting the line and swimming away, guys a joke

Hey guys I am building my 12 valve CPL-2175 97 manual truck. I have read alot on the internet about pistons and think its only made me more confused lol.. I called my local cummins deal and was quoted 180 each for stock replacements in a .020 over bore.. Id like to run something better if there is another option.

So if there is something you all think is a better option please chime in and let me know..

Thanks in advance...

Cummins has other options available. As well as Mahle.
You got your standard run of the mill automotive, then you have the firetruck/RV type that are used in higher hp ratings. Also the marine piston with D10 graphite coating on the skirts.
All of the above mentioned pistons can be purchased for less than the prices you were quoted.

Thank you for anwsering my question.. I think I found a set from mahle Im gonna use. Wouldn't mind your imput on them. mahle part number 286110

Just curious though, how do you know what pistons you are going to use? Are you just going to order a set and hope they work? There were quite a few good questions asked here and you didn't answer any of them.

Yah I hope they work.. Lol Im not a idiot.. I was just wanting some opinions on whats better and why.. What questions did I not anwser?

Therein lies the probem.
How can anyone give you sound advice when they don't know EXACTLY what they're dealing with ?

What degree angle is the spray pattern of your injectors planned.......

Has your head been decked ? Block ? How thick of a gasket are you gonna use ? Cam specs ?

got any videos of your truck smoking on YouTube? LOL

Just a couple... OK the last one isn't serious.... but it was funny

Well I tow alot and wanna be able to drag it and daily drive it...

Currently it runs 13.0's at 5280ft..

Setup is ATS 3k/5K compounds. 5k gov springs, 0plate, big DV valves, DDP140's, CFM intake bounet, studded, 22* timing, 3 stage meth kit, spearco intercooler, 6 inch exhaust..

I just wanna know what the best piston would be to go with.

After all my reading I dont see much difference and would like some guidance in picking the right set.

This post ?
It answers none of the pertinent questions.
What's going on with your pump or turbos has no real bearing on your piston selection.
Hey..it's your money. If you pick the wrong pistons and throw in a big cam....it'll be your money that rebuilds it again.
Piston to valve clearance isn't a guessing game...it's a numbers game.

89-90 vintage. That one has the narrow pin. 75.8 mm long vs. the 82.8 mm used in later engines. So.... if you buy those make sure you get pins with them.
Also I think (pretty sure) it also has the 14mm crown/trl.

if you can afford to have a 8k dollar pump just lying around you can afford a 200 dollar camera

and if you are smart enough to r&r a pump you should be able to figure out how to post pix

no offense but with the claims you have made no one is gonna take you serious w/o a little proof

snap a pic n post it

will take you 5 minutes

i dare ya

don

:redx:

what mahle piston would you recommend?

I'll ask again...Are you doing anything with the cam ?
It'll make a lot of difference in fly cut vs standard pistons.
Seems like with everything els you have planned you'd be looking at a good cam to help it all out.
