13mm pump on the street?

I had a set of 4GSK, that when they were set loosely, they drove very well, but once you started cranking them down for more RPM, they behaved like you mentioned.

This is how my 4k's act on my 215 pump. The way I have them set now ... at times/certain throttle I get the gov spring bounce / fuel shake.

I hear about CDS governor spring kit. Would that be a good choice? They're supposed to behave pretty well.

Okay. I'll back em up a click and try it out. Gotta make a funky tool out of a screwdriver so I can operate.

My 5k's in my Haisley 13mm pump are really smooth. And when i crank them a lil tighter they are still fairly smooth but take a sec to come off throttle when you let off. But you just need to learn how to drive these things. Try loosening them up some.

I find it strange that people here that are in the know suggest the surging problem under low/no load can be corrected by adjusting the governor spring tension, and II says it's normal because that's the way the pump is built. Does it seem like I got blown off? I understand these people are busy and I'm not exactly a big customer or anything. I dunno what to say here.

I would suggest that you take some time and play with your spring adjustment. If it fixes your issues you will have the answer. G spring and afc tuning can make a world of difference.

No there is some surging/fuel chugging with a 13mm pump like mine if im going light throttle and in third and it locks up it bucks some cause the governer is sensitive and there's a dramatic drop between my fluid coupling and lock up.

For sure. I will definitely be spending whatever time it takes on the pump to get things as good as I can get them. It will be time well spent, even if it doesn't improve, since I will learn.

I am curious how this works out for you. I ordered a 13mm pump from Columbus Diesel at the beginning of this week. I went on the mild side. 650cc w/ 022 dv's, 5k springs set down to 4k. I am hoping it will work well.

Ive heard Columbus Pumps are bad to the bone! I like my Scheid pump though, no complaints out of it.

I like the columbus stuff, no BS, mine came with injectors and the injectors had a stamp on them 1-6. When I talked to them about it, they laughed when I told them I was putting this on a 2.8 truck.
Pump is 600cc-1000cc. On a side note they said running the pump at the 600cc mark should give me years of service out of it.

Since I let II know I was going to be running mine on the street and they knew the other mods on my truck, they set me at 650cc and 24* timing. Brady did spend quite some time with me on the phone some months ago explaining how the pump, sticks and so forth are all one big system that needs to be set considering all components. So the fact that Columbus sent the sticks with the pump is an awesome idea. Brady did express concern that my injectors (5x.016 at that time) might well be too small, as might the stock lines. He said with the amount of fuel available from that pump, if you choke it down too small with the lines and sticks, the pump can bind and cause damage. I took his advice and went to .093 lines and bigger sticks.

I was noticing this morning running down the highway, again at light load (but on a slight upgrade) the tranny went out of lockup. I've noticed this before a couple times under similar conditions. This makes me wonder if my surging while on no/low load might actually not be a governor thing at all, and is actually my tranny going in and out of lockup. I might actually be looking at a TPS setting issue, and not governor. :bang
