I am going to run Zachs springs, any info on bridges and retainers/keepers?
Brandon

ur an animal lol, 5500 rpm holy poop that thing is gonna spin faster then lindsy lohan at a free drink party lol

Maybe you shoul try calling Zach and post up what he says. I'm yet to read anything about his bridges. Harlond Sharp makes some trick pieces for like 2grand$$$ John runs them in his funny car.

I know 1 person that spins 5600 on all Cummins stuff. Springs, bridges the whole 9. Its all different application stuff, not truck, its like marine or something.

I think zach is who I will be calling just was curious if anyone had any idea thanks guys!

Hey Brandon, I called Zach A couple of weeks ago and he said his springs run stock retainers and locks and that he has personally seen them hold 5800 rpms. This subject has been the hold up on my motor for awhile now and cant get any real good answers. Brad at schied said he ran all stock stuff on his truck at 6000. Somebody is either fibbing or good salesmen selling this stuff if the stock crap works... Tim

I am on you boat now but I hope to get answeres real soon! I will post after I try a few different shops and folks to try and see the general feeling on this cause we all know that they will not all agree...

Brad running a 24V head?

:badidea:
Brad running a 24V head?

I am pretty sure he did for a little bit on his red truck when he had it. I know for a fact they dont run stock stuff on the 12v's, trust me i have one. Spinng 5k or more on stock stuff sounds like your flirting with disaster.

Brad ran the 24v till the last part of the year or so it ran , it was just a vp when he started pulling it some time ago ago, he said it made good power with the Ppump only reason they changed was lack of parts he said kent had tons of 12v pistons and such so they stuck with that

I know when i went to build this motor, everybody said the 24v head flows more but you need good valve train so i bought springs, billet keepers and 10* locks and chromoly pushrods. I bought these from a tractor puller who is also machinist ( i dont even want to hear it okay! LOL) Anyway, the keeper disc was nice and thick but when you bolted the rocker arm on, it hit the keeper. I sent them back and he machined them again to a taper like the stock ones have and they look great and clear. Now since the keeper is thinner, the locks stick up above the keeper and the bridges make slight contact with the locks. So i send them back and thats where im at right now. I have springs, but need keepers and retainers. So i call, Hamilton, Schieds and Haisley. Hamilton and Schied said to use stock but with a stronger spring and high rpm, i not sure about. Haisley said if i send them my springs, they will se if there keepers and retainers (or slash enterprise) will fit them. If i could get my money back from my set i would buy them straight from Enterprise. I dont want to hijack Brandons thread, but some answers for us would be good. Tim

I talked to a very realible source today (He might just pull a flat black std. cab) but we both agreed that stock stuff might work but look at what happens if u drop a valve....why not spend some money now and save money later. I will be calling Josh monday to get my bridges and keepers/retainers and I will still be rockin the hamilton diesel springs!!!

Here is some more for you. I have talked to Bill heyen quite a bit since he does alot of work on my buddy Bryces truck and he runs all of EEP's setup including their custom bridges and he handed me about 4 or 5 of them that broke in half. He said he has never had stock bridges break and runs stock bridges now with everything else from EEP. More food for thought huh.

I heard though that some of the reason for the stock locks failing is due to the weight of the stock bridges and u can feel a weight difference between the stock bridges and EEP's.....
Brandon

I think EEP doesn't even sell bridges anymore. The guys that I talked to about the bridges said the bridges way a touch more than stockers anyway. I have seen a set that I think Keating made. There was not any noticeable weight difference.

The bridge rides on the valve stem. It should not touch the locks cause if it does, it could knock them loose. This is the main thing that gets me was everybody says you need these things, we buy them, now nobody seems to know any real answers when you have questions on $1500 worth of parts.

I am going with different valves, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I know but it has something to due with the weight in motion mabey the rocker actually looses contact with the bridge if the weight is slowing the upward travel of the valve I dont know but when things start moving faster than standing still I dont know what is going on when we run the poo out of them.....

Well we are deffinantly getting out of my knowledge area here. I like the idea of running stock stuff with my springs because it is cheaper and easier, but i know that i dont want it craping out my motor first hook because i skimped and if i could do it again, 12v baby,, all the way. If this motor will turn 5500, i plan on it running there so i can atleast hang with you guys and not be embarrased and i wanted the assurance it would be okay so i spent the money.
