8.3L Cummins Transplant

Out of curiosity, why not a flat bed rather than a factory bed? I do like the look of a factory dually bed, but after ditching mine for a cheap flat bed I can't figure out why I didn't do it sooner. You seem like a guy that could make good use of a flat bed.

And during the summer, momma and I commute together since the kids are at daycare and not school. I imagine the frame mod will start on a Friday night, go through Sunday. Then I'll take Monday off, load it on a flat bed, and take it to have a drive shaft made/modified. I'll let them measure it on the truck. Lowers the risk that way. I'm sure I'll drive it bedless for a week or so after until I get the frame extended. Using the Kelderman with longer arms to move the axle, the frame extension will all be done behind the springs/gooseneck hitch. I can drive it while I work on getting the frame extended to add the rec hitch and rear bumper put back on it.

I assume you are planning on moving the GN hitch back also so that is sits properly near/over the axle. Be ready for some drilling and welding to make that work properly as the frame will not be prepped for the hitch in that location.

Also, be ready to extend your light harness and trailer brake harness, but you love playing with wires, so that probably excited you more than anything else.

Just put it in 4wd and drive it. :)

That's how I plan on loading it on the trailer to make the 1 hour trip to the driveline shop. I really hadn't planned on driving it to and through OKC like that.

I wish I hadn't already taken my 10 year vacation allotment this winter...that could be fun...

Sure could.

I think his comments remain valid....

Honestly, I think it would be invitation only and between the four people I'd invite.....I would imagine it would be done in two or three days if we could talk the wife into constantly running for parts, beer, and food.

I'd love to toss a nice CM bed on it....or an aluminum one. I would use the crap out of a flat bed and most trucks around me in a 15 mile radius are all flatbeds. It's all about cost.

Did someone say beer and BBQ?!

Nope. Nothing to see here. LOL

Yes. B&W will move back to 1" forward of axle. This 6" forward OEM placement is complete bull schidt. All it does is wear out the front tires. These trucks don't need any more weight shifted forward to steer properly...and it dayum sure won't with the axle moved back almost 2 ft.

Wires? That will be the most fun part. :D

gonna turn like a 30 ft tomato flatbed

It already does...however, I really have no idea how a 30 ft tomato flatbed turns. LOL

Mmmm flat bed...

Mine looks pretty enough for me. A lot of worse choices. A skirted cm does look better if setup right but I don't dislike mine.

once you get used to hooking up a gooseneck on a flatbed you will praise god for such an invention...bedsides suck for that

Hooking up a gooseneck can't get much easier my friend.....it's very rare that I don't hit it the first time. :D

I used to say that... then she showed up at my house unannounced. Not cool...

I'm still going to guess the Wildman has his 8.3 project done first!

I love how Jory's threads are all 1k+ posts, and 1% of them pertain to the thread topic. LOL

No lie. Can you top coming home from getting engaged only to have your wife to be find a booty call on the answering machine from a chick that was around about 5 years prior to meeting your new wife to be? Ask her how that went. LOL
