95' Junker Drag Truck

Will, have you tried running with no tail gate? I've always heard both way. The weight reduction is nice, or that keeping it keeps the air from getting turbulent in the bed. Just wondering if you have done it in 1 of your 1 million passes in the last year, and what you noticed.

I haven't tried running without the tail gate. Until the recent drag slicks upgrade, I was fighting traction so much the truck would run quicker with a passenger, the heavier the better.... LOL

Now that it's hooking up well, I can start playing around with weight reduction and aero mods.

Are your slicks a 15" rim or 16"?

If 15" was there any mods to the rearend to get them to fit?

Sorry to ask, I didnt see the post, but what suspension mods have you done so far? Shock types, spring mods, etc?

Mid-11s on that setup is nuts. Congrats on everything so far.

15" x 10" steel rims for my slicks setup. I just ground down the cooling fins on the rear drums to where they were almost smooth.

Rear suspension is (2) stock leaf springs, no block, homemade caltracs, and 80,000 mile free stock shocks from a 2005 Chevy 1500.
Front suspension is Ram 1500 coil springs, stock replacement $20 shocks, and adjusted the control arm out of factory spec but into the position that gave the most downward suspension droop before binding and the most caster to greater high-speed stability.

any plans for going into the 10's soon?

I'd love to break into the 10's, but I need a rollcage first. Right now I'm working on a mystery oil leak so I can't run it at the track right now anyway. Looks like the rear main, but could also be something major like a head gasket or the cam walking rearward. Until I did into it deeper, it's staying parked in the garage.

BTW it is an awesome ride getting it done on a lower budget than some peoples turbo set ups:st:

Thanks, It's been a fun project for sure.

Congratulations Dr. Frankenstein, you have created quite a monster. Thanks for sharing everything, I've learned quite a bit from this thread and your others

Congrats on the new Track times and HP numbers man! It's amazing what a little traction on the track will achieve! I'm running Mickey Thompson 33x10.50s and can only hold about 5 psi at the line and spin pretty much all the way to the 1/8th mile.

Now you get to take the big jump to 10s. Good luck to ya!

You cant see it i guess?

These work well and are fit the budget

Was reading in a different thread about the spring controlled internal waste gate, wondered if you ever did it?

really? (I believe you, just shocking)

I tried a 160 spring when i was benching my afc and got zero movement until upwards of 80psi, iirc.

Mine seems to go full travel around 55-60 psi. Works great for the current 5x.018's.

In an attempt to get maximum fueling out of this 160 pump, I've got some upgrades planned.

1. Swap out the DDP 042/024 DV's for something more aggressive....

2. Try out this monstrous set of 5x.025" VCO injectors I recently acquired...

3. Alter the shims on the pump barrels....

why not just go to a 12mm 180hp or 215hp pump? or swapping barrels and plungers out for 12mm units?

also, who built the 5x.018's? i will be interested in them after you take em out.

I have been a fan of this thread since it first started and have read religiously and i must say WOW on your low ball budget you have built one of if not the all time sleeper/11sec beast

awesome thread, I started reading at about 6 today and I just got to the last page. there is no better way to test upgrades, brovo for taking your time and doing them once at a time... I know i dont have half the patience!

I also tried a 160 pimp gov spring for the afc, netted maybe 1/4 afc travel at about 80 psi.

also, where do you have your line pressure gauge hooked up to? i think I may need to invest in one.

I believe he was talking about changing 11mm barrels tothe 12mm out of a larger pump?
