Addition to Smokem's AFC SIMPLIFIED thread. Now locked.

Just get a CR then.

Got one.

Was looking over the online manual for the Apexi AVCr last night, I don't think it will work very well. We need a boost vs boost table, and the apexi is mainly boost vs rpm. There are more adjustments, but don't think it would work. :(

I do like the idea of a pwm solenoid valve in the reference line though. Just need a controller.

If you want to make a 12v smokeless, youre either going to need to crank the AFC down to the point where it sucks to take off from a stop, or you install a supercharger so you have air from idle up.
I tried messing with the AFC, and sure I can make it cleaner, but its no fun to drive after that.

How about with a haze? I just don't want cars to have to change lanes and be a problem to other drivers ect

The way my truck is right now, from a dead stop I get a decent cloud, turbo lights and I just haze till lock up, once she locks up she starts billowing pretty good, but like said above, if I pull more fuel the turbo is laggier and out of lock up performance falls off.

I think i just need a bigger turbo to bring more air in, in lock up.

Or have 131s, a governor spring in the afc, and roughly 1/3 of travel lol.

Samething I learned messing with the afc.

When you take enough fuel away from the start that it creates turbo lag your at the break point, It's no perfect but for non adjust timing and fuel it works.

Yup, that point where you maximize spool and minimize haze is as good as it gets =(
I think turbo sizing and AR, as well as converter stall plays into it also. Helps to be at a higher RPM when you try to lay into it, versus going from 1200rpm and matting the pedal.
you can tweak the TPS a little higher so it revs more before shifting I guess. put mine back to stock 1 volt.
I upgraded to this small S300 turbo and I just cant seem to stay on top if it when Im cruising. Less air than the stock HX35 had when just tooling around.
Personally Im looking to solve this with turboluvr's supercharger kit. I do too much driving at low rpm and the smoke sucks.
might move the motor into a 05 superduty, so Id need to get the smoke under control to pass opacity testing here for 10k commercial trucks.

Im swapping a governor spring into my AFC now and I noticed some clear moisture on the air side of the AFC looks like it could be clear oil? I dont see any evidence of it being torn unless its leaking around the shaft. The oil on the other side is black and the oil in the air side is clear and clean. Anyone ever see this before?

The back side will have Black oil.. engine oil side.. The other is boost side from intake and you have water/meth.. I would say your seeing that on there

It's fine!

You check the engine oil to make sure youre not making milkshakes? Sounds a bit suspicious.
Its possible you have steam thats working its way into the oil and then boiling off. condensing at high points with low temps like the AFC cover. Good idea to run the truck for a bit after your last injection event.

And maybe a cylinder head designed for street use.

True that. If you havent, look for some recent threads talking about swirl and port velocity with the hamilton versus stock.
Some mods optimize the motor for top end performance at the expense of low end. Smoke is one downside to that approach.
I think a SC is the only real cure, but wont know for sure till I get one on the truck to test.

Not to be a dick dude, but the real cure is to build a combo with parts suited to your needs.

The water meth has been off for a while. Its oil I'd love to know where it came from on the air side.

I had issues with smoke vs. power long before I started getting crazy with the mods on this truck.
Its going to be a problem on any turbo diesel where you raise fueling across the board. I think some folks just deal with it, but I dont like smoking people out either. Unless they deserve it of course.. :st:
