before installing my new EDMs yesterday, i decided to retorque the stock head bolts (171,000 miles and didnt have time to do the arp studs) prolly a little over due but oh well. i just decided since i was gonna have the valve cover off for the injectors, i might as well retorque them. so i took the rocker arms off and retorqued them according to the service manual my buddy had from geno's garage. reinstalled the rocker arms, swapped the new EDMs/.093 tubes, bled the system, and got it started. took it for a test drive and everything felt good. on the way back to my buddies shop about an hour later, i was slowing down to make a turn and noticed a TON of white smoke pouring out the stack (I MEAN A TON) regaurdless of being on the throttle or not. thats when a bad knock started (LOUD). if i gave the truck throttle, it would get worse, so i let it come to an idle and the knock stopped. accelerated again, NO knock? drove it about 150 more miles that day, and still no KNOCK?? any ideas??

sorry for long post!

Sounds like one of the injectors may have got stuck & dumped too much fuel.

also check your pushrods and rocker arms--make sure something didn't come loose or break----

what causes that??

will the .093 connector tubes make the truck idle a little rougher?? almost lopes like trucks with big injector lines

The bigger tubes can cause the truck to lope. As far as an injector getting hung it could be from debris in the lines somewhere that made it through or what not. Call him up and tell him what happened and I'll bet he sends you a new set to get you up and running. Mine are running great and after the turbo spools I've got no smoke at all.

Like Blue said, a little dirt will hurt. It could also happen from gelled fuel, but usually from debris of some sort.

I have seen this on the Powerstrokes and it was usually a cracked or broken nozzle on those.

the truck runs good, i only had the knock for about 20 sec and i drove it the rest of the day without any flaws. ill give him a call still to see what he says...

he told me the injector may have stuck open for a second, just like most everyone here said...i guess its possible a little dirt/debris of some sort got inside one of the tubes or lines when i had em off, but i was pretty careful about it...should i not be driving the truck?? is one of the injectors shot??

I tend to lose chunks of skin off my hands and elbows when doing injectors on my truck. Maybe you got some caugh in a line! :D

If the truck hasn't done it since then I might not be to worried about it but if it bothers ya then send them back and have them checked out.

I would guess a pushrod wasn't in the cup right and then it popped back in place.

if his 22(X)'s run as cool and smooth as his 200's i might consider going a little larger...

That thought has crossed my mind as well. I think I'm gonna give him a shout tomorrow. I don't have any smoke and I'm only hitting 1300-1350* so I could stand going slightly larger.
