That's it, i've had it, i'm sticking with the single lol! Think i'm going to try a stock stall and see how I like it.

Any body have anything to share on their experience with their stock stall speed converters? Likes dislikes?

Any input on whether it will be harder when locking the converter on tranny shafts?

It all depends on how big a turbo you're trying to spool.
My CR with an S400 71/74/.90 needs atleast a 2200 stall to light.

you'll like the looser stall... it's not really harder on shafts than locked shifts, but you'll have to have the converter clutches refreshed more often... not a big deal by any means IMO

Nick,
There is a member on here that goes by Waynes World, he doesnt live to far from me and he installed one of Dave Gs. new 2700 stall triple disc converter back in June.
This is #4 converter for him and he says this one is the BEST one so far for a BIG single and daily driving/drag racing.
i dont know which one yur running now, but I think the stock stall might be to tight. I am running a 15 blade left cut and it seems almost to tight, but then again this is my first auto in a car or truck with alot of horsepower.

I'm not even sure if I have the whole tight vs. loose thing right after writing this.:bang

68/74 .90 ED charger. I need 2100 to take off.

Your truck is about the same as mine. I currently have a 1600-1700 stall and it works fine to cruise around but does not work for sled pulling. Stock is 1300-1400 rpm.

Stock stall wouldn't be too bad, I have looser than stock, I can see 3000 if I want, but it is really wanting to go at that point.

Mine is just a plain jane s400 though, it doesn't have the big $$$ mods to the turbine section that are supposed to aid in spoolup.

Have 15 blade left cut right now. Brett at TNT's going to give Dave a call and see what he says.

My stock was about 1800-1900. Were the 12v's different?

Maybe. Or that is where you thought it was...that's where my stocker seemed to be but then again it slipped a lot...I was told by an expert that stock should be 13-14. On a diesel converter stall feels different than on a gasser because of the torque.

I dont think RPM is a very accurate way to rate the stall of a converter on a turbo charged diesel. The stall will depend on how quickly the turbo spools and how much power the truck is making.

Not exactly! Higher stall allows the rpm to come up quicker so a large charger will light.

i ran a stock stall 3 disk converter in my little truck for 30k or so. i like it a lot it would go from idle to 10 psi of boost in a couple of seconds.with a hx40/16 over a ht3b/26 i had my new converter built with a stock stall for my new truck. it felt like a rocket when you locked up the converter.

Mine wasn't from slipping. Slipping it was like 2200-2400. LOL Stall on my stocker was very close to 1800-1900rpm. Its the same converter that goes behind the v10. Or that's what I'm told. I dunno. Haven't driven a stock converter in 4yrs so I may be forgetting something.

Maybe I really don't know what converter stall means but I know I need it to leave my engine rev free until around 2200, then I want it to start pulling stumps out of the ground and breaking sled chains and spinning wheels and slinging dirt and what ever else happens. LOL LOL LOL LOL I have a 2200 stall on the way so I guess we'll see what happens :Cheer:

I really like the converter Dave setup for mine. He interviewed me for 45 minutes over the phone to make sure we got it close the first time. TC #2 works awesome, I went as loose as he can make them.

Thanks. I'm interested to see what Dave has to say! With 4x4 and my smaller charger I may not need as much stall but it would be nice to have ability to spool what I have quick at the line instead of 18 seconds worth:bang

I think stock stall would do you just fine.

The thing with going to loose is that you lose a lot of efficiency that is nice to have when daily driving. Especially if you pull a trailer. But if you dont, then i think a stock stall should be a pretty good stall for your setup.

Im willing to bet a stock stall converter will run up to 2100-2200rpm without a lot of problem in 4hi. 4 low is makes it much harder to hold back because of the gear reduction so a looser stall is needed if you need that RPM in 4 low(for sled pulling).

If the stock stall converters in these things were 1400-1600rpm, then the stock tranny would actually be alright!

And the looser of a converter you have, the harder it will be on shafts and parts when it locks. It has to make up more RPM difference to lock than a tighter converter so it shock loads the driveline harder. Probably not enough to hurt much, but it will be a little harder on stuff IMO.

With a lock up why would you want a tight converter? Tight converters hurt more parts......

V10/V10? Thats what I have in mine and its working pretty good so far. Ive tried the 15blade left cut back cut, V10/Diesel, and now I have the V10/V10
