Big Stall Time

X2. In my experience timing makes a HUGE difference on how the turbo spools.

We have pulled my crossmember out several times without ever using a jack.

How much timing are you running Nick?

26*

What kind of RPM are you shifting at, and what is your RPM in 4th when you go through the 1/4?

At around 22* the charger really didn't spool any different at the line for me with the current converter, just throwing that out there.

With my trap speed and 31.6" tire size about 3340 rpm through the traps. I try to shift around 3000rpm. Sometimes a bit before sometimes a bit after.

One thing I need to do is get more practice with the truck at the strip and with the current timeframe of spoolup I haven't been able to do that which is a large part of going with this looser converter.

10-4. I think the new converter will help a bunch. Have you tried sort of rolling up to the lights with your foot on the brake, spooling it as you slowly roll? Should make it a little bit easier to spool.

Nah, just pretty much go in the first bulb, get going (while the other car is doing it's burnout:bang), then when she creeps up around 20psi I creep her into the 2nd bulb. I've recieved more waves and hand gestures from light officials thinking i'm clueless than I appreciate:hehe:

Nick, did you get the new converter in yet? I got mine in tonight, went from about a 1400-1500rpm stall to a converter with about 2000 rpm stall. It is a night and day difference, I tried a couple launches and it doesn't bog down out of the hole anymore. I'm gonna try it at the track next sunday and hopefully have some better 60' times to help me get into the 11's.

I'm working on buttoning everything back up today. The trans/transfer case put the whoop on my atv jack and made getting the trans back in a nightmare:bang. I need a lift in my garage lol:hehe:

Good to hear man can't wait to see how she works out! It's raining here today though so won't be able to do much testing.

She's in! I did a short test drive and the truck is definitely working better but if I wasn't going to change anything at all with the turbo or tune I'd a gone a little looser. I'm looking into r&d'ing a quick spool valve for sound performance and with that I see this converter being perfect for being able to mash and go! I'll keep the updates coming with more drive time.

I know my converter only flashes to about 1200rpm under no boost. Then it has to build boost from there, and once it lights, it pulls real hard. It just wouldnt be too fun with a bigger charger.

Eric

Which one do you have from Goerend? Mine flashes around there, but doesnt spool till 1800ish. With twins, 3.55's, and 315's it's tough getting heavy loads movin'.

I have Goerends 800/300 stall converter. It is the 2nd tightest converter he makes. Mine also doesent seem to really get the turbo lit until 1800rpm in 1st gear since there isnt much load on the motor then.

I know what you mean about getting heavy loads moving. If i have to take off on a hill with a heavy load, its normally a smoke show:hehe:

Tell me about it, last time I towed the 40' GN loaded I smoked through a light and had to start in 4LO the second time to get up the hill.

Nick, did you end up making it to the track today? I ended up with some gremlins on every run. My truck came out of the hole hard with the new converter, but could only manage a best 60' of 1.776. That was on my best run. The 1/8 was 7.797@90.998mph and 1/4 12.181@114.633. so still no 11's for me.

No man, after I helped a guy with his afc saturday I took him for a demo run. Well during the run I nuked the head gasket and we had to tow me back to my house:(. Sux too because i'm 95% posative she had at the slowest a 11.90-11.80 in here given the before and after feeling from the addition of the 2095 plug.

I'm in the process of toning the truck down actually. I'm going to put it back up in the air, put some 35" tires on it, put a small t3 turbo on it, and just drive it and have fun. Asking a 6250 lb daily driver to run 11s may be a bit out of reach as a daily driver given my available time and money and I refuse to take this truck off the road to race it. That was never the intention of its purchase.

Thanks for the update Brett. I'm sure you'll get her cracked soon. That's sure is some stout mph still!

Sorry to hear about the head gasket, it's always something. I'm thinking of switching to a pcs controlled valve body, I can never get my tranny dialed in the way I want it. On what would have been my best pass my I picked up .10 in the 330', but then it wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. The 1/8 on that pass was still a 7.90 but at 79mph.
