Broke Rings - Tear Down Pics

Atleast you got plenty of good passes and a lot of great use out of it before it gave up. It looks like it will be more fun in time anyway!

Do you guys just put stock rings back into a higher hp motor like this? Or is there better rings out there to use?

I could have made a fun comment with this one, but Brandon's helping too much to be mean :)

That works.

I just got back from dropping everything off at Woodruff's shop. I'll know in the morning what he finds on whether or not the block can be used with a 20 over bore.

Sorry to here about your carnage Lavon, your new enginge should run strong. Good Luck with your project. Thanks Steve B.

At least you had fun before it went boom. Are you going to run a cast or billet helix from Don?

Cast Helix Cam, I'm not planning on running high rpm's so there's really no need.

I just talked to Woodruff and were moving along. The block will clean up with a 20 over bore (the divit in #4 was 9 thousands deep), the crank needs to be polished, the deck of the block is flat so the o-ring grooves don't need to be touched, and (surprising) the head is perfectly flat with no cracks. All the machine work should be done by tomorrow night, and all parts should be here by then too. Plan to assemble the engine on Sat.

Going with Mahle pistons, new rings, bearings, etc. Plan on lowering Compression a little, just enough to help the rings live under high boost, but not enough to make it an ether truck in cold weather.

Honestly, I don't know whats going in yet. I'm going to take Woodruff's best recommendation. I will let you know tomorrow when I go pick up parts.

Lavon thats a bummer man! Looks like youre making headway and going the right direction with the rig! Good luck bud!

I went to Woodruff's shop last eve to help him assemble the engine. After 8.5hrs of cleaning, sandblasting, painting, lubing, and torquing we got it together. I got home just a little early this morning :). I went with ARP main studs and rod bolts, polished the crank, reused the rods, new malhe pistons dropping compression very little.

A HUGE THANKS TO JOSH WOODRUFF for burning the midnight oil and helping me get this build done quickly! I can't say enough about the knowledge and workmanship that goes with Woodruff Diesel! Also thanks to Jeff at http://www.mumaudiesel.com for getting me a good deal on cummins parts!

Here's a few pics, I'll get more as I get the re-assemble started.

Yes, just jegs valve cover breather.

I'm antsy to get it together, but I'm playing the waiting game until thurs or fri. for my new triple disc converter. It'll give me plenty of time to make everything look good and fix all my leaks.

If anyone has a stock 24V exhaust manifold they want to sell, let me know.
