D80 vs GM14 bolt

The bearing mounts on a dana 80 carrier are only 2.25", don't you think boring that out to accept a 1.75" axle is making it kind of thin, at least on a cast carrier like the dana or a detroit? I know in the past pulling we have sheared the ring gear side mount off of both dana and detroit carriers there with stock dimensions. I would think boring it out would just make the problem worse and that is using stock 1.62" 37 spline axles, the carrier failed first.

Not even considering how little material is left on the spindles to ream them out for the larger axle to fit.

What did those HO72 come in? Assuming something greater than a 1-ton application?

1946-1972 chevy, gmc, and supposedly some studebaker trucks 3/4 and 1ton

These were also used as front axles in the famed NAPCO 4X4 conversions on 3/4 and 1 ton Chevy/GMC and studes

FWIW the housing on mine is from a 67 C20 coil spring rear truck, the 4.57 third is mainly from a 1954 Chevy 3800 (1 ton)
