I change mine after the 2nd pull and change the filter also at that time. I inject alot of water also but never have any water residue in the oil. I do how ever smell fuel if I go 3 hooks. I was also told by Van when I got my motor that I could go every 3 or 4 but with only having 7 or 8 hooks a year its cheap insurance just to do every other pull. I am currently running 10W40 though and thinking on going up to a 20W50 since it gets thinned from fuel and what not anyway.

I would say that if you have to ask, you are better off spending the money and using an oil analyst’s kit. Let them test after so many pulls then change your oil accordingly.

Since the oil is contaminated with fuel, are you guys dumping say the oil in the fuel tank of the tow rig, and burning it?

I dump mine in the back yard like I do with my tow rig, I figure it came from the earth was refined, and then filtered it's got to be better then when we pulled it out of the earth.

j/k I take it to Pep Boys to be recycled :)

:hehe:That's too funny scott!

on a 2.6 motor i wouldnt go over 4 hooks, 2.8/3.0 motor i wouldnt go over 2-3 hooks, and on a mod engine i would change it every pull.........

have any of you thought about going with reusable filters......SOOOOO much cheaper than throwing away a filter every pull......pull it out....clean it, and put it back in........we use them on racecars ALOT.......plus you dont have to cut them open, they just unscrew......

Weve got a 9 inch bolt together style inline filter on the new truck....should work fine.

i knew someone on here was running one.....i plan on using a cleanable one like yours on my truck when i put the bigger motor together......right now ill just buy one from jegs or somewhere.....

you got any other pics of your truck man????

My company is Royal Purple's PR agency. You would be surprised at some of the test results we have seen. I would say that doing oil samples will let you know how often you really need to change your oil. We have seen many race engines able to go two to five times further on an oil change than what the team was doing.

We even have some dirt track racers going an entire season without changing oil. But I have said that a couple times in this thread. So, I’m done that’s just my opinion.

The guys I talk to that run the mod diesel trucks. Said 4 or so between changes.

Ive got some but its tore back apart for the tube chassis conversion. The pancake style is what the tractor guys have been using for years. With a dry sump setup, it makes it very easy to check and clean.

well i cant wait too see it......from the scuttle ive been hearing it should clean house at SDX........id love too see it at Hillsboro......considering im flying 8000 miles and driving another 500 home to see that pull......

I don't know where that was heard but theres is ALOT to get working together. I really think this setup is going to impressive once up and going the way it should. We have been working our *sses off for the last year designing and building the components to take the duramax to the next level. You will not be disappointed......your just gonna have to give me some time and seat time to work things out.

ahhhh heck with that.....trucks are like women......you beat on them enough and eventually they will do what you want.......i know.....:banned:

but she is more complicated then any woman that Ive ever been around.....I can promise you that!

yeah but atleast if you get pissed at this one you can walk away and it wont mess with you anymore........

sorry for completely ruining your thread Garrett......:wrong:

Water and fuel determine when you should change, but also, it is the only thing you have that will tell you whats going on inside there.

You guys that run short intervals, if your close, I'd like your oil!!!!

Side note, Amsoil bypass(maybe others, also?) will remove water from your oil.

In addition to the Water and fuel, don't forget high soot content.

Bobcat, I've used blackstone labs and if you have them email you the results you get them the same day they test your oil or the next. So with overnight shipping and email you can get it in just a couple of days.

My amsoil guy says the bypass filters are great at soot removal.
