Dedicated Race Only Rigs?

Cool.

Keep in mind with any epoxy out there due to a resin change a few years ago prompted by a VOC law epoxies used over bare metal or Aluminum now like 80 grit scratches much better than the 180 grit scratches that they previously required. This is stated in our epoxy tech sheet in the tech manual and epoxies will still stick to 180 bare metal scratches 80 grit scratches especially on large pieces/jobs are best.

A lot of people don't know DP changed a while back and it's no longer recommended over bare metal as they want an acid etch/wash primer used first.

I'm going to post in the exterior section in more detail on this subject because a lot of people don't know about the changes in epoxy resins and the disadvantage of wash primer on anything other than fast-turning collision work.

We havn't ruled out a glossy showey paint job just yet Andy so we may have to try your deep glossy black awesome paint......:evil which will look awesome next to all this carbon fiber-LOL :evil :rockwoot:

Cool!

I just met a guy at the SEMA show this weekend that takes new dashes (like out of an H2) among other things and covers them in carbon fiber (not a stick on kit) for high end show jobs. I forgot what all he said he does but high end carbon fiber custom work is one of his expertises.

We had a great conversation so I going to see him next week when I'm in Tampa which is cool because I've always liked carbon fiber when used right. IMO it never hurts to learn something new.

I'll try to remember to take my camera with me next week when I go that way Jeff has something to look at when he gets home from work at night.:hehe:

Seriously now I think a deep dark glossy black would really accentuate all that Carbon Fiber really nicely....

While flat black paint jobs are all the rave right now, if one has a vehicle straight enough for a black paint job my opinion is clear the pizz out of it then stand back and brush your hair in it.LOL

My dad has a low mile '73 454 vette toy that was originally silver from the factory and he had already begun jambing the doors and door jambs silver when he said the heck with it. He's now going Black Black so it will Bling Bling.LOL LOL

I don't blame him because IMO silver is boring now that every 4th car on the road is silver.

Andy we might just go for the glossy black.....

Cool. If it were mine I would spray 3 coats of clear, wet sand it the next day, pull it outside for an hour then apply 3 more coats of clear. You could do 6 coats at a time but cars cleared in 'layers' look better.

Just a little coating lesson: By pulling something outside that has primer or clear on it before applying more product the UV (not sunlight) light re-flows any solvent that might be trapped in the previous coatings from a step that might have been rushed. Trapped solvent in a coating can cause dieback (loss of gloss) and it usually occurs once the vehicle sees sun for the first time.

If dieback ever occurs the longer it takes to occur after the painting process was completed will give you an idea which particular coating had solvents trapped in it. A junky clear can dieback right after you spray it and literally within minutes of the last coat. On the flip side if it takes days even months for a paint job to dieback you can assume it was trapped solvent in the base, sealer or primer.

A major mistake that happens in a collision shop is the painter has 1 restoration job that he is sick of looking at already and he knows he won't actually paint it for months because there isn't a hurry to complete the job. When it comes time to 2K prime the car he hoses 2K primer on it not paying attention to flash times because he thinks the trapped solvents will escape on their own over the next few months. The problem is they won't escape until they see UV light. You can bake that same car @ 160 degrees for 24 hours in a bake booth and you still haven't accomplished much of anything but a lot of people still think baking will get their trapped solvents out.

And that concludes your daily paint lesson.:hehe:
