Drag truck idea

Seems as tho he's taken the advice and is searching. At least I hope so anyway.

Thank u and I know more bout 6.7s than 12v.. What I'm trying to figure out is how hard it will be to do a 12v into a standard cab shortbed 2wd and get it in 9-10sec range???

Check out the guys at diesel power products. They have a built one that is exactly what you were looking for. You can buy it already built a lot cheaper than it will cost to build one. 866-379-8685:ft:

My thing is my 6.7 is my daily driver and i dnt want to beat it up at track so I wnt to build a drag diesel.

That bieng said maybe I should have spent more time typing my original post but I was at work and using a phone.

I also want to learn more bout the internals of the cummins motor so what better way than to tear into one. My idea starts of with 94-01 standard cab shorted 1500 2wd.
Transplanting a 12v motor and full suncoast tranny into it, roll cage and tubbed.
List that I had for 12v motor isn't that great due to lack of knowledge on them but goes a like this
-Bottom end girdle
-Billet rods
-flycut high heat pistons
-14mm industrial injections pump
-Big set of injectors
-24v fire ringed full race head
-Hamilton cam
-Electric fan
-Big single or twins not sure witch would be better
-intercooler
-Fuel cell
-Nitrous
-Maybe watermeth if need not sure on that

I do want to be able to drive it to the track and run it and drive home of possible?

I would like it to be 9-10sec truck am I headed in right direction with motor any suggestions or input on stuff is appreciated

Probably would be cheaper but I like to build it with my own two hands.
I get more enjoyment out o things that I build myself

I honestly don't understand why the mods don't immediately ban the op and close these threads before they get out of control.

It honestly gets old wading through this **** just for the few tech threads these days...

Feeling generous...

I would buy a 24" backhalf/4 link kit. You could spend thousands building up a 9" or narrow a cheap 14 bolt. Another option if you want a little street legal action is a ladder bar back half kit. Google s&w chassis. Lots of good race parts at a decent price. They also carry cages. Probably gonna need a 10 point to be legal for your goal speed and maintain safety. Front end will probably be fine other than some fancy adjustable shocks. Cheater slicks for the road. Wrinkle walls for the strip. Your going to have a huge disadvantage with weight distribution. But a properly setup suspension will allow traction.

With the engine there are several threads on high hp builds. 5.9s are easy to build. With a light truck it shouldn't take more than 7-900hp to meet your goals. Go ahead and skip the single so you aren't replacing converters every other race. Probably will save money in the long run. Hamilton 188/220 would work swimmingly. 200/220 is you decide to turn up the rpms. Not needed though. Lose efficiency for high rpm power. 14mm pump is way over kill. Could be done with a 12mm, but I'd run a turned down 13mm rqv-k gov. Injectors will depend on pump. I'd say something in the 5x18-20 sac range. Forget the term propane. People will continue to laugh at you. Same goes for watermeth. You'll inject water at most. If you choose your turbos correctly you won't even need that.
I'm not even going to get into transmissions. Several threads on here regarding what works and what doesn't. Same for tech build threads.

Ps the dollar thing is no joke plan on spending at least 15k on the engine. 10k on the trans. 3-5k on the rearend. 3-4k minimum for chassis and cage work. 5-10k for misc coolers, hoses, accessories, driveshafts, gauges, shifter, etc. Read read read seriously. Otherwise you'll get run down so much you'll be scared of the green handled pump.

stock yes, but you can port the crud out of a 12v head and get more flow than a 24v due to cross over tubes and water jackets. For a 9 second truck you will need a ported head.

Thanks for ur insight!!:) I have been bouncing this idea around for awhile know and am gonna be picking up the truck itself and 12v motor here soon. So I am trying to put together a general idea of what all will be needed and how much will be involved

Do this before posting more threads or questions.
Use CompD search function using these terms and read every thread.
Cams, p&p, head, Hamilton, rods, pistons, injectors, etc. also go to the extreme engine tech forum and read each page. Then do the same for turbos. After that find the thread where a guy did a back half on his short box. Lots of pictures. This will keep you busy for a couple weeks if done properly. Then come back and we expect smarter questions. I also have a build thread on something similar. Decent info and pictures in there.

Rather than use a half ton it would be easier to start with a complete truck and clip the frame. If you found a decent running 3/4 ton and clipped the frame into a short bed. It would give you a foundation to start building on. I'm just guessing but the wieght shouldn't be enough to matter between the two.

A 94 or 95 would be my choice since it has a rh trans with less electronics to mess with although the 96 threw 98 has the better pump. Read up on a couple of junk yard builds on here lots of good info.

It would be a lot more fun and good learning to start with a 20 second truck and build it slowly than have a project you can't drive for a long time being built. Look at Blues build, one of the most informative threads from start to never finished.

1) speak english
2) search
3) or you will get a vacation and your threads will be closed and deleted
