Dually or new wheels!

I ran 6 33x12.50 STS's throughout the year running singles I would always pull 290's (STS up front and BFG A/T out back) the night in question I think I went a 293' with the dual set-up. Like I said all of us thought it would be a big advantage (And it looked cool) but we all saw and heard my footage and a couple guys around here that were wanting to run duals backed out after seeing no improvement. A thing to remember is the Lee Bros. were running 33's and bumped to a 35" and won Indy, Evan is always the one to beat and IIRC they never beat Evan till the indy event I never asked them but the results showed that it helped.......... Run what u will or call me a liar but I had around 30 hooks this year and like I said most were on single and when I went to a dual it was nothing but wow that looks cool. If I had the chance to do it again I would have ran a 35" last year thanks to a good friend (Teddybear) I have this chance for 09'. Sorry for the long wind but I tried it and my results showed nothing mabey I am just a dumb 21 year old........

Well I was thinking of running duals this year as well, But I may just run a 15.50 wide tire instead

Well I didnt plan on puttin duals on my orange truck! Im just torn now between bfg's or sts! Also anyone know about the rules on spacers on srw???

Well I am just a dumb 23 year old! Well just it's virtually the same price for a good set of wheels or just go buy 2 new tires. At the same time I am going for the look and traction. Brandon how much more of your power did it suck away with running duals? I'm mostly worried about getting the extra 2 tires and loosing rpm and wheel speed which would in fact hurt me.

Im sure it did suck some power I did not feel a huge loss I still left the line as always tires on fire I frown upon slipping a clutch. IIRC dually spacers are a no go in most rule books.

Maybe I will just hold off for a little while! See how Dane and Corey do with thiers! Need to get a few other things out of the way first.

Well it won't be on a Dodge but I am starting out the pulling year with dual's on the rear of my Excursion with 4 used bfg at's in the rear and new ones up front. 285's. I want to keep the dual's on the rear and run dually fenders on the Excursion because I have never seen another one but not until I go back to singles in the rear and see if it makes a difference.

I love my duals lol. Really though there has been times that I think it helped out quite a bit. I run 285/70-17 Mickey Thompson ATZ's front and rear with 1.5" spacers out back. On the tight tracks I don't think it helped all that great, but the real slick/muddy tracks and the loose/sandy tracks I believe it was an advantage. It helps to stay out of the rutts from the previous trucks aswell so that you do not loose hitch hieght. But like everyone else its only my opinion. I have seen many who go to duals and not see any advantage either.

What gears are you running brandon? I think that would have alot to do with how you pulled last year anyways... you were runnig 33's with 5:13's werent you...

I have always run singles on my truck. A buddy of mine started out running duals in a reg cab long bed and last year we swapped it over to singles and the truck does a lot better with the singles. I think they are 315/?? and can't remember the rest.

Tory give me a call. 573-694-5155. Ill trade you all six of my tires for 2 sts. Heres the thing though. My front rims are 16.5. So... if you have a rim that in fairly good shape I would just swap you 2 rims and 6 tires for 2 rims and 2 sts. Hows that sound?

As are many others..........

No you want a larger contact patch. If what your saying is true, why not run a single disk clutch, or a single disk convertor?[/QUOTE

Don't a wider tire have less contact patch PSI then a skinny tire?

Yes, it has a lower PSI, but the PSI isn't the largest contributing factor. It is the ability for the tire to get ahold of the track. I don't think twice the psi on the smaller contact patch will be more beneficial to twice the contact patch on a smaller PSI. You will dig less with the duals. I am not saying the duals will help you, but they will not hurt in the majority of the cases.

Contact patch PSI is the factor... but their's a fine line their. If just more tire on the ground was the factor then we would see all truck's running DRW and SRW wouldn't be competitve.... Wright??? Or am i not getn what your sayn???

Look around you see so many of the top trucks running duals. Contact patch PSI is a factor but not the only factor. Granted a well setup SRW truck will beat a not so well setup DRW. Given all things equal, my money is on the DRW truck.

Your wright, track conditions play a big roll in this! On a loose, muddy, soft track i think DRW will shine.

I did look around this past year and didn't see a differance. Schied's for instance, i didn't think a truck won at their pull with DRW...correct me if im wrong!

Got to thinking about this a little more and with my truck how it sits it's all ready at 7400 pounds so if I add t more tires now I'm up to around 7600 so now I have to take weight of the front which would hurt me. Thinking about just staying a single wheel now.
