Doing it for a buddy. its an 82 el camino and hes got a rusted out 94 2500 2wd 12v/47rh. its going to retain the dodge computer so that tranny shifts/OD button/grid heaters etc are goin to work. the car was carbeurated so theres no mess of wires to deal with just the ones coming from the dodge. i dont know about the front coils yet due to the added weight. im thinking they make big block coils? the engine has gobs of room but the tranny tunnel is a wee bit tight so we'll see how it goes.

Looks Good I know someone else thinking about doing this swap but a Ranchero instead. Big Block Coils should do fine I would also box the A Arms.

I imagine a plasma cutter and some sheetmetal could fix that tranny tunnel problem :D
I also thought El Camino's were ugly and a horrible idea, but that one, if done right, might actually be kinda neat.

yeah prolly gunna box the a arms and hopefully i dont have to go too in depth with the tranny tunnel. ohh and he wants a hood stack too. hehehe

Yeah I have seen the Arms not really hold up until you box them or get some aftermarket ones. Hood stack EHH not much for that truck maybe a real short one in the bed that would be sweet.

Or like some sidepipes like the diesel Corvette.

I second the ones in the box,, 2 nice short ones, close together

it had the side pipes but eww. i told him to do ones in the bed, buttt the thing is that behind the seats its an open compartment like 2 feet under the front section of the bed. so the pipes would have to come in them out again plus theyll get hot etc. AND there is like 3 inches total of useable space underneath that thing, its like a low rider from the factory.

ive been wanting to do this to my 86 i have..mine is an SS with the choo choo customs..factory side pipes, cowl hood. cool car..i cant wait to see it all finished up!..good luck on the project man

thanks i hope everything will clear gonna find out here in the next couple days.

well got the 12v out with the tranny. let me tell you i dont think these motors were ment to come out with out loosening the cab mounts:umno:, at least in the 2wd trucks. there is not enough room between the cross member and the underneath side of the cowl for the the total height of the motor (valve covers the bottom of oil pan sump):bang.

well got her in tonight and its actually not that bad in the firewall department. the motor sits low enough that it wont be dangerously close to the firewall/tranny tunnel so were good just have to fab up some motor mount and x-member and itll good to go.

im doing the same in my 80 el camino i just got the 12 valve and 47re how does the trans fit on the cross member

going to need heavier then BB springs
here is a general ideal og some G-body springs
http://www.maliburacing.com/coilspring.htm

i got MOOG 5608 springs un cut with a and iron head BBC possibly upgrade to moog 5610
this is same spring with a SBC iron head the BBC (850lb) sits about 1-1.5" lower i am currently hitting stuff with the crossmember.. i have to 1" spacers that i plan on puting in on the top side of the springs... other option is to go coil overs on the front. which is $$$$$$

WOW sweet setup. I am with malibu, I would be worried about those springs taking the weight of the cummins. I think spacers are a good idea but I would imagine ride would still be terrible.

it will work fine just need to get the right ride height

What if you used springs from a town car I think they would be in the ballpark Rich
