Well I think I have found a motor to build. I cound a non 53 block with 88k miles for a good price to replace my cracked 53 block. I am hoping to get it next week. I am wanting to send it to a local diesel engine builder and have it compleatly torn down, hot tanked, check & clean up everything. Im going to have it ballanced, re ringed with all new barings ect... I am going to also do a new cam (thinking of the Hamilton "Big Stick"), Valve springs, push rods, Lifters (if need be). I am also going to have it O-ringed & steded, Also thinking of doing some port & polish work to the head when its off & apart. Please give me your advice on what else to do or what you would recomend. TIA :Cheer:

You seem to have it all covered. The port and polish, cam, and valve springs are a very good idea.

anyother thoughts or sudgestions?

Please put in your $.02

it depends on the application

what are you gonna use the truck for?

i dont think anyone is gonna just start suggesting stuff not knowing what the app is...if they do you prolly shouldnt listen anyways

lol

regardless of app i would look into hp coatings

they have some wicked stuff these dayz

pistons

followers

dont think i would coat many more items in a diesel

Ok that is a good point:bang The truck is the one in my avatar & sig. It is my D.D. that I use everyday & do atend dyno days time to time & on acation would like to take it to the strip & sled pulls just to have some fun:blahblah1:

oh come on just go all out!!!!!!you know you want to!...it does sound like your plans are good.maybe think about 2k over 12 valve gasket to bring pressure down.or cut pistons a little, because this thing can and will get out of hand right quick.it is hard for me at least to say,"ya i dont need any more power."good luck i am sure a fresh engine is going to be cool-breeze.

Ya I hear ya & I do want to! But I mean its not like it is or is going to be a full blown race motor. Its just my daily driver:bang So what you think is going to get out of hand? As is right now (yes im still driving it) My EGT's are well under control, But I am wanting to do 150+ HP sticks in the new motor instead of the 120's I have now, But also thinking about getting a upgraded inter cooler also. But again what is it you think is going to get out of hand?

well, out of hand is what happens to me when i do anything diesel.but p&p the head and a cam will help it run better.so you are on the right track

ahhh i see. LOL I just want a good healthy running truck that I can jump in & go ware ever I want & still be able to put some half way decent #'s down on the dyno & half way respectable time @ the track or distence @ the pulls if I ever hit the track or the pulls.

see it is happening allready.you want 150s and thats where it starts.lol and when the egts get hot.bigger turbo lol.diesel fun never ends.when i say out of hand its a good thing.

LOL trust me I know all about that. I know there are a lot of people that have a lot more than I do. But there are quite a few things done that are listed in my sig. & diesel or not I never have been able to leave anything stock! haha & the injectors, cam, intercooler, p&p are all things Iv been wanting to do for a long time. & now that I "have to" build a new motor it sounds like a good time to do it. Oh ya & once my bike sells I want to put a Garrett GT4202R under my GT3788R LOL but thats if & when the bike sells. But anyway... back on topic now. what else should I look in to doing if anything...

Why go all out for a daily driver with a stick shift? A stock engine will handle 500 Hp just fine. No need to spend the cash on P&P, Cam, HP Coatings, etc. Better off to spend the money on a sweet set of twin turbos. Fast spooling, better egt control, and better resell value when you decide to get into a different truck.

With only 88K, why mess with new bearings, rings, etc? An abused motor with 88K will last another 300K if you keep up on the oil changes.

Your money, your truck, but in my opinion, if not going for a full out purpose built truck, no need to go that deep. That's why you, me, and my neighbor bought a cummins, it's already built right from the factory!
