F106's

Nice pile!

Are you running a F106?

I sold my truck last fall...currently I am just helping out my brother with idea's and a bit of labour. (I was building the truck with him untill a fued started...realised that being parterns in it wasn't the best way to go) so now I am just giving him ideas and a bit of help and the rest is up to him.

Anyway, (I found one for him the other day up here in Ontario...same sort of money as that bunch on ebay). He will be running it next year in our pro-mod class up here if all goes well.

from what I found they came in all Ford F500 and F600 trucks. They were also in some dodges of the same vintage as well as school busses from the 60's although I am guessing they were in the shorty busses as most busses even from back then had way bigger axles.

how do the guys running these (or other big rearends) run duals? I think I seen where Kusilek had a whopper of an adaptor made and I think I seen a spiffy (aka $$$) hub that converted them from the big 6 to a 8x6.5 bolt pattern which would make running duals much easier.

Just wondering what's up with that, yo? LOL

Never had my wheels off to look. I do know that my rear rims are 1 big rim that balanced and welded together. I'm not looking forward to having to put new tires on it.:bang

Hmmm. Got pics of those rims? I'd love to see the look on the Tech's face at a tire shop if you asked to have new tires put on. LOL

Never had them off. I have already warned them about it. They seem fine with it. They are on the truck currently but have no close up shots.

where do folks pick up the 172's or SQHD rears?

How about planetaries for either of those? Think for 2wd. ;)

Do you just search for "H172" or "rockwell" and just know what you are seeing and looking for and desypher through all the top loading crap or what? LOL

Yeah, didn't you say recently, in another thread, that you were going up a class? 'Round these parts, that will most likely mean big driveline 3.0 or unlimited single. :D Surely an F106 can be made to handle a 4wd 3.0 truck. I think the other big 'uns might be more for the mods and 2wds as they are a fair bit bigger/tougher, right?

I'm just completely ignorant on this stuff and looking to know as much as I can about where things are going and how people build what they build.

I periodically search for H172 and F106 - then if nothing comes up I search for rockwell and search through the crap looking for deals  of course I haven't seen a deal on one since I bought mine.

Been doing allot of research in the past few days on rear ends. Building a new truck and want the best I can get. A complete F106 with all the upgrades you can do is around 4500 a SQHD with sheet metal housing aluminum center section spool guaranteed not to break weighing in at 350 pounds for 5500. I am going with the sqhd.

You can convert a F106 to 8 lug for around 1000.
