Fishing lifter from oil pan

Been there done that, I drained the oil and tried to fish it out that way, gave up and dropped the pan enough for my hand and arm but I did have a cherry picker.

If I had a cherry picker I would have this thing done by now. Oh well. Thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna fiddle with it tomorrow and see what happens.
 
Cutting the pan is my LAST resort. I'm gonna jack with it tomorrow and see what I can come up with.
 
if your going to cut it i would use a holesaw get a 2" one and a 2.5" one, punch a 2" hole in the pan, and use the 2.5" one to cut a piece out of something else so you wont have to worry about splatter and burn through getting in the pan.

its almost a guarantee that you will have at least one or 2 pin hole leaks when you weld it up if you use a mig, theres no way you'll get all the oil off the inside of the pan and its going to get sucked through the weld.
 
You should just leave the engine where it is and cut out the front cross member. That way when you go to re weld in the cross member there will not be any oil to contaminate your welds.
 
You haven't seen the underside of my truck have you LOL.

I'm worried bout cutting that crossmember out cause Ive already got the radiator support bar out and I don't wanna start cutting crossmembers out. A missing crossmember would make life a lot easier though.
 
i plan on cutting mine out and welding some plates on so it can be unbolted and removed
 
Even though it sucks, take the time and do it right. Get a cherry picker, and drop the pan down.

P.S. Blame it on the cam manufacture. That seems to be the general trend lately.LOL

LOL nah. Hamilton has gone above and beyond helping me. So there's no way I could remotely blame him for this.
 
Snap on sells a magnet on a piece of copper wire, it will bend and go anywhere. should be able to get it with that. dont know if you have access to a snap on guy though.
 
No I don't. I got a fastenal down the street from my house that I'm gonna stop by and check out. Maybe o'reilly's will have one?
