Fishing lifter from oil pan

It was a joke. You said nothing rattled so it probably defied all odds and fell through. It is possible...the chances are astronomical though and oil would have also fallen through.

Hijack alert!

Here is the "cherry picker" I used to put blocks under the donor engine so I could pull it all apart and send the drama pump south...

Got the lifter out. It had fallen face first into the pan and was stuck like glue. My 5lb magnet couldn't even pull it over. Dowel rod was sitting on the oil lines. Had to jack the engine up to pull it out and was able to stick the lifter back in fron underneath.

Kent Moore Tools Sells A Tool To Hold Lifters Up It Is Expensive But You Will Never Drop A Lifter Like What Happend To You With A Wooden Dowl This Tool Set Is Realy Nice But Expensive

instead of all this crap with dowels and what not, cant we just hold the lifters up with magnets on strings or bars or something? seems like the best way to not getting pieces of wood in the motor, or having a zip tie or close pin or the taper on the dowel slip.

That is exactly what we do. Went and bought some cheap telescoping magnets. Took some wire or string and help them up that way. I never understood the wood method. Just made no sense. :bang

^^^^ the wood method works good but you really need a spare to shape the dowels to. JMHO.

i have doe this twice now with the wooden dowels with no issues once with the head off and once with the head on made sure the dowel was in good and tight and used rubber bands. i also angled the edge of the dowels just a little so they would squeeze into the lifter. but once i pulled the cam gear i slid the stock cam back in while the gear and cam where getting tempered to put them together.
