Free Spin Hub Question

Interested

I am interested in this swap, want to get rid of the unit bearings, and have a few questions.
1. I read that you use the spindles out from a 92 F250. Is there a range of years of the F250 I could look for? Not just the 92s?

2. 79 F250 rotors, same question, is there a range of years to look for?

3. What Ford had the D-50 and which had the D-60? What do I look for to tell the difference?

I will be getting my parts from a wreacking yard and want to know what to get.

Thanks for any help.

If you tell the salvage yard that you need spindles and hubs from a 92 Ford F-250, their computer will pull up what years are the same part numbers. As for rotors, I would buy new, since they are around $50 each. I bought rotors for a 79 F-350. The stub axles need to come from a Dana 60, in order to fit the same u-joint as the inner shaft. I think the range on years on the stub shaft is 88-99. I am going to 35 spline outer and inner shafts. I bought my Warn 35 spline hubs and stub shafts from Complete Off-Road. My 35 spline axles came from EMS Off-Road.

D'HO, I should have thought about their interchange manual. Thanks for that. OK do the F250s only have the D-50s or are they mixed, if so how will I know the difference?

I think the Dana 50 and hard to find Dana 60 axles use the same spindle and hub. Just make sure you get a 11.4" stub shaft for a Dana 60 axle.

Unconfused

Thanks for the help, I guess now I am unconfused enough to look for parts. Funny how a little assistance is better than creationism.

Well, i finally got it done.

the 02 shaft would not slide into my carrier, which is a piss off but oh well, it is slightly larger diameter. Drilling the spindles was painless in a press. Had to buy 2 30 splines stub shafts because the one that was givin to me with the spindles and wheel hubs was a 35 spline shaft. Bloted up nice, calipers were a touch tight but will be fine after i wear off about 1/16" or so of outer pad.

I have a Dana 80 rear out an 02 6spd truck.... which is about 1" wider then the older years due to the ABS and updated unit bearings in the newer trucks... now my front tires stick out just as much as the rears... looks cool and definately does the job... truck drives like a dream and i'm lookin @ a tub of grease a year to repack the hubs and maybe $60 for new bearings as opposed to $500 or more for stupid unit bearing crap that isn't rebuildable or very robust... i was toasting 1 side a year...

i have a 92 1st gen cummins and a 97 2nd gen, the 1st gen is pretty much a wreck,, now can i swap out the knuckles, hubs, lockouts ect.. off the 92 onto my 97?? I know mine is ball joint style and the 1st gen is king pin, can that be changed over as well or is that totall different??

I'm very far from an expert. What would I need to do to keep the same wheel studs and bolt pattern to avoid having to get a different driver side wheel? What else would I need to look out for regarding the break discs etc.? An interesting idea! $1000 or more for this is not even a consideration. Really even $700 is way too much i'd just keep driving it as is. It's not a big difference but it is a noticeable one since putting the lock right in the front. Mainly looking for cheaper ideas like the one suggested in this link. Thanks for the input all:Cheer:

on this you also upgrade to twin piston calipers
