Fuel Prices, Pulling and Traveling

The oil companies and the gov need to look at the fact that the high fuel prices are effecting or economy on a much larger scale than just what they rake in every year. OTR trucks all run on diesel thats why the prices of everything in stores has gone up so much and the problem with that is the average wage across the USA has remained the same. People are spending a large % of thier income just gettin back and forth to work and me bein self employed i toss about 300 or more a week to the oil companies and our gov just to keep my trucks goin. The oil companies have a monopoly over the whole country and if our gov wasnt involved in the scheme they would do somethin about it. There will never be anything done about it though because they really dont care that problems like these are causing a weakening economy.

Just playing devil's advocate for the moment:

The oil companies are making record profits. BUT the rate of return for thier investments is only in the 5-7% range. If they were making any less of a ROI would it still be worth thier time to do it?

And yes I think it is going to cut heavily into the number of pulls I can attend this year and compete. Time will only tell how much of an impact.

i would get a tank but for you pulling truck i would get a tank for off road fuel no sense of spending the money for on road for your pulling trucks if you dont drive them on the road that or start making your bio fuel

The pull truck doesn't bother me so much. I think the whole season I only used about 15 gallons of fuel...its getting the truck to the pulls thats a killer on the wallet. Deffinatly using the company truck is going to be done the whole season but still hurts in the end.

I wish i could use the company truck and gas card but if i do that its just costin me cuz its my company lol

the fuel price in wis today is 3.78 a gal the sh** is to d@m high there is no reason the fuel needs to be this high! the president needs to faten his pocket book before he gets out of office you all know hes in it for the oil money !!!!!

i agree with that completely everyone knows the bush family has always been in the oil business

when the bush get out of office hopfully the fuel prices go back down ware they should be i would not be b1tching if my pay checks go up every time the gas and diesel prices go up

I really dont think a change in office will bring the prices down but a change in office could bring the economy to a better point and that could lead to better wages or in my case more business and some better investment returns

I don't think an office change will solve anything. It is all about supply and demand.....we have to pay it to survive and they know it. Somebody (high up) needs to take a stand because this is really going to kill the economy because won't be able to do the things they used to all because they have to worry about putting fuel in their tank......Kid needs shoes or gas!!!!.....hmmm It is almost getting to that point for lower class income people. It is sad

I have some friends that are not so great off and that is what it comes down to "do I buy gas to get back and forth to work or do i buy food and things for my family?" It is going to take someone high up to put an end to this and the fact that our gov thrives on money and self betterment not the welfare of its people will keep anything from changing. Its that simple little fact right there that will keep the prices high and will keep them on a steady rise until we beat European prices maybe double them.

Trust me...Im in the same boat as you are but in reality its cheaper to put it thru the bussiness than pay out of your personal account. Using your company fuel card is saving you close to 25% that you would normal pay in income tax and stuff if it went thru your own acount. This helps a bit but I think I still need a big tank for when it gets really expensive...just so I can buy a little cheaper in bulk. Plus up here...they give you a tank from the co-op and you just pay for the fuel.

That is true there is supposed to be a big tax break for runnin biodiesel but nobody has it in my area that I am aware of. Thats why I always run the red stuff it was 2.99 last nite. The dot is to busy around here to be pullin over every diesel pick up theres to many of them.

lets get a 5000 gal tank and share it :hehe:

Supply and demand is all I here on why the prices are where they are. That works great for elastic goods. The higher the price, the less they will sell, and there is an equilibrium that the market will find where it will balance out. Like the price on a 67 Vette is determended by how much people are willing to spend for it vs how many that there are. Nobody needs to buy a mint 67 427 vette.
But fuel is an inelastic good. I don't care if fuel prices are at $7/gal; trains, trucks, barges, construction equipment will still be running just as strong, angry, but still buying fuel.
The laws of supply and demand don't apply to fuel prices.
But the wet dreams of oil execs do have a big impact on them. So go buy a hooker for the oil tycoons, and maybe they wont get off on our wallets.

That being said, I will have a small schedule of events this year. Maybe 2 600 mile trips, and the rest regional events.

$4.00 a gal and higher alot of places around here and there are a lot of trucks for sale as well but who is going to buy them knowing what you will pay in fuel prices my truck is payed for so its not that bad but i still hate shelling out $4.00gal for fuel
