G56 tranny and pulling?

Has any one been putting some big power through a G56 for sled pulling?
Has there been and problems with them? Are they weak compared to the NV5600? I'm looking at some of my options. Thanks.

A guy around here (KY) tore up two or three of them 2-yrs ago with a Work Stock class truck. I think he finally switched it over to an NV5600.

He has since quit pulling and put the G56 back in or has traded for a different truck.

the g56 for the most part is as strong as the nv5600....the downfall with the g56 is the aluminum casing.....but thats about it. I pull with 760hp and really had no problems as of yet.

I know of the guy, it was a dually. Strong running dually. If you stay on the low side of the transfercase, should probably be ok.

Seems like conditions where the NV5600 will bust a main. The G56 will just grenade into a million pieces internally.

Either way, its going to be an expensive day.

Ah, so, not really stronger or weaker, just breaks in a different way....lol

Any of you have some good info on the G-56 like gear ratios, gear oil used and what not. I can't seem to find much.

they are really nice shifting trannys but if you are going to pull and you have a stock or close to stock size turbo you had better find something different. You will break it if you hook very often. Almost everyone that i know of with a little turbo has busted that tranny if they hook alot and have good power sorry for the let down.

Another downfall to them is the gear ratios in the newer G56. When my truck was clost to stock I would pull aganist my buddies with the identiacle truck except mine was 05 and there was an 06 and I had the Nv5600. In 3rd gear low I would constantly pull farther then them every pull because of the gearing. They could not get as much speed out of it. Not that it would be such a pita in the hgiher hp levels but is one minor setback. A guy over at DTR said he's got 10 hooks on a G56 anywhere from 4th low 2nd hi, and 5th low with no problems.

WTF, am i missin somethin here........... I dont understand this, your sayin that its better off pullin with the G56 and a bigger turbo then a small one?????:pop:

Ramtd02 is pullin with 760hp and im sure he has a turbo bigger than a stock one if not twins!

Just a little 62 made the 760hp wait for a big charger. Ask Lmills bout his New venture 5600. I think they will all break at some point. Some seem to have better luck than others. the g-56 does shift smoother thow

Typically the higher RPM you don't have the big torque numbers.

someone should bring up the avaliablity of these trannies, If you find an nv buy it, if you break a G56 you can often get on the next day from a dealer or builder. Plus to put the nail in the coffin, so to speak, parts for the NV are a same fortune! In my book the G56 wins hands down!

That was Derrick Dryden. He also busted at least 1 NV5600 in that truck. Stock turbo with nothing but some boxes and programmers. It sure was stout, but I couldnt believe how many transmissions he killed with that stock turbo truck.

I really like how smooth the G56 shifts compared to the 5600's. For daily driving and about anything else, id take the G56, but im not sure what i would go for with high HP.

the stock turbo in that truck allowed the torque curve to be so flat that it wouldn't die and the aluminum case just so happened to be the weak link, a nv5600 with an updated mainshaft is WAY better than a g56, a stock nv5600 is just better, none the less if you pull with a g56 it will break, unless you have a lag cannon turbo that will let you choke out at the end of the track.

Yeah, that truck would not kill out. It would flat get down and dig, and that is hard on parts for sure. He still busted a 5600 though.

The nice thing about the 5600 is that you can pull almost forever on it without breaking as long as your tracks are somewhat loose and not midwestern clay tack truck killer dirt.

Mine went 44 hooks before it broke but the break could have been avoided if I would have changed tires and chose a smaller gear etc. etc.

his foot slipped off the clutch at the end of the track with the truck wide open after ironsides had already shut him down.
