G56 tranny and pulling?

I run in the neighborhood of 700hp or higher? I went to a pull over the weekend with a bite'n a$$ track and sts's. Wow! I made 5 hooks that night and on the fifth, second gear when clunk clunk zing. I run 2nd high and never really loaded the engine, it hardly ever pulls down below 3500rmps. I think that when it broke it might have been 3400 but no real load. But i also have about 50 passes or better down the track. With that in mind i really cant complain, i knew it was going to happen at some point or another, so in my opinion its a pretty stout tranny.

Those tires really didn't dig at the end though..I think the hopping at the middle of the run weakened it..Do you have it fixed yet?

Edit: Better yet did you ever get it back off that dinky little trailor? LOL Everybody told me to take it easy pulling you up on there..they must have been nervous after seeing what I did to that sled..lol

I have around 500 hp I was thinking of going 5th low with a smother tire instead of 4th low. which is better 22mph with biting tires or trying to stay on top of 5th with spinning tires

from the reply to the black cummins post: yea pretty stupid huh, when you want to beat them duramaxes real bad cause you have been all year and you've added a little power and the first class with out weights. I guess the communication between my brain and foot was lost to say the least

You can now add me to the trashed out g56 club. 2nd hi=broke truck 2 gear teeth are gone

i have broke 4 g56s. im over em completely now. put one in about a week ago and it lasted one day of driving and broke at a sled pull at the end of the track. im gona try a nv5600 and see how it holds and if it goes im gona get a built auto in the spring. the g56s do fine in lower hp trucks but dont waste your money if your competing

What I can't see is why aren't you guys saying anything about putting in the nv4500's. I know for the fact the 4500 is stronger and holds up to 1000hp+ trucks sled pulling. I know Scheid pulls the six's out and sticks in the nv4500. I know you have to upgrade the input shafts, but they basically bolt in. Plus they're cheaper and easier to find.

Regardless of what transmission I think you should try to gear the axles and transfer case to run a 1:1 gear in the transmission. but I know that can't always happen due to difference in tracks

Put planetary on it and be done with it. You will never think of breaking drive line parts again.

What should i move to??

NV5600 or NV4500 and stay in low range on the tcase.

RPM's/wheel speed/track speed... I know, I know.

Really an NV5600 can live a long life in 2nd high if you watch what your doing. The mainshaft is the only real concern with the 5600. The 4500 won't break shafts but it will break teeth off gears like it's going out of style (in high range).

With the power the trucks make these days nothing from the street is really holding up very long.

I know nothing will hold up forever but from what I see the 4500 is still the ticket. gear the truck down and run some rpm's use your head and things will last alot longer.:blahblah1:

NV4500's seem to work well once you upgrade the input. 4500's shell 2nd gear off, but the rest of the tranny seems to hold up.
