G56 tranny and pulling?

Well, I'll be pulling in 5th, 1:1 with either tranny and in low range.

i've chatted with some guys on these forums who pull with some high HP trucks 750+hp and very rare do they use 5th gear, its said that the planets and stars must align perfectly to require the use of 5th gear. i believe JW3 tried it once and had some nasty results.

at least thats what they told me

I pulled all year with a G56. I have dynoed over 650. I pull in 2nd high or 5th low depends on the track.

Most of the tracks out west are loose and you need the wheel speed. I have pulled a few times in 5th low with 33" tires and 3.55 gears. I saw about 2400rrpm down the track. Better than 4th low and hitting the rev limiter and defueling the who way.

Also, My friend had a 03 he always pulled 5th low with 33" tires and 3.73 gears and normaly saw 27-2900rpm down the track.

We don't get the crazy traction like out east.

Exactly...

5th low is only good when you can keep it lit all the way which is almost never.

5.38's and 5th gear would probably be a good combo eh? (With some rpms of course, which the CR's don't have yet)

Im the guy that has broken the two g56s they may work for some people in different areas but they werent very well for my set up with the tracks here in ky if you have a turbo you can get under at the end you shouldnt have any problem though. The 5600 now that was a different story:bang

So a truck running 600-650 shouldn't have any problems with the tranny, correct?

And to think I bought a manual because I thought I wouldn't have to worry about this...

Just ordered mine yesterday and now im thinking the same damn thing.

You can find parts and trans for the NV5600 and the NV4500 but I have not been able to find anywere to buy parts for the G56 online though? That was one of the things that puzzled me.

I just broke mine on pavement the other day with some help from the TNT R.

4th gear let go. I'm between 600 and 650 right now I think. My last dyno was 571 and I've added Flux 2's and F1 springs since. I was getting into the throttle and when the boost was approaching 50-60, BOOM, clunk clunk clunk. No 4th gear.

Gonna pull it out this weekend and tear it apart.

I really though I'd get further along in the HP game before she let go on me.

I've done lots of drag racing, but this one let go when I was barely horsing around.

Running 2400 Rpms down the track is border line getting under the turbo and loosing all the momentum you have. I would say you had more wheel speed bouncing off the rev limiter in 4th. Why not try 2nd on the high side?

g56 snapped

pulling 2nd high this weekend on a midwest clay track got to hoping and was too dumb to let off. 5th works thats it. Whats broke? maybe the countershaft? Wheres the place to get parts the cheapest or is some one building these parts to last longer. if so where?

I got a G56 half apart in my garage right now, blew all the teeth off 2nd on the countershaft this past Saturday. If you run one I highly recommend staying on the low side…

I have broke a NV5600. TS event earlier this year. 2nd high, slipped the clutch just long enough to spool the turbo, then dumped the clutch. The main shaft didn't like it and said Cee-YEEEE!!!! I mostly pull 4th low now. Before I would pull 2nd high on a light sled and good track just because I would top out at 3500. Now I pull 4th low all the time since I got the TNT R tune. 2nd high at 3500 and 4th low at 4K are both 28mph with 33" tires. I friend of mine named Tye Hardin has gone through 2 NV5600 in the last 3 pulls he has made it to pulling 2nd high. He says 4th low is all he is going to pull now. I talked to the tech at All Standard Transmission in Indiana and he said always stay on the low side, especially on the NV5600. The mainshaft gets pushed sideways in 1st and 2nd gear and thats the main reason why the shaft breaks at the transfer case.

As for the G56, from what I have seen, anything over 550hp on a hard biting track is gonna shatter it. I've seen 3 trucks around here do the same exact thing. 2 were in 2nd high and one in 4th low. The problem with the G56 is the aluminum casing flexing too much under a load, which then binds up the internals resulting in carnage.

I run in the neighborhood of 700hp or higher? I went to a pull over the weekend with a bite'n a$$ track and sts's. Wow! I made 5 hooks that night and on the fifth, second gear when clunk clunk zing. I run 2nd high and never really loaded the engine, it hardly ever pulls down below 3500rmps. I think that when it broke it might have been 3400 but no real load. But i also have about 50 passes or better down the track. With that in mind i really cant complain, i knew it was going to happen at some point or another, so in my opinion its a pretty stout tranny.

I have about 25 hooks on mine and 5th low and 2nd hi. And im in the 650-700hp range and no problems yet. i think that if you are smart about it they will last for a good while.

I have only tried 5th low one time but the clutch needs rebuilt after over 40 hooks and 20,000mi. You can figure it out from there.
