Gassers vs Diesel Pulling?

Yep, I feel like there's a resentment for the diesel trucks from the gassers. At least the lower level gassers. The one's with tube chassis 4wd and 2wd don't seem to say much but then again, I haven't seen them at a pull the same night as diesel trucks in a good while. And not to have a chip on the shoulder, but the gas trucks don't bring in half the crowd that even the lower level diesel trucks bring in not to mention the big events like TS, SDX, Indy, etc. Yeah, the big time 2wd trucks and maybe still the baddest of the bad 4wd trucks get the big shows like NFMS but I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing at least the mods pulling in L'ville in a year or two. By a large margin, the diesel bring waaaaay more fans to the events, period.

I have never seen a gasser even pull. I got in an arguement with a buddy of mine over this. He has a Toyota Tundra and thinks they are just God's gift to the world of trucks. He kept sending me youtube videos of supercharged one's pullin the sled. I could tell there was like no weight on the sleds so I told him it doesnt count.

Don't worry guys - they're just jealous! LOL

Everything follows the $$$, and diesels bring plenty of it... gassers are starting to be left out.

I give the gas boys the room they need...they treat me the same! The pullers need to get along, it's part of a team effort to put a good show on for the crowd. Sure they have the bigger class, sure they stink, sure they make a lot of noise but they've been around longer, if it weren't for them us diesel guys would probly not be where we are, I've learned a lot from them and am friends with most of the locals.

x2!

I agree that they have been around longer and we could probably learn somthing from a few of them. But theres no question from a business standpoint that the Diesel trucks bring Money to the promoter. The problem we have here is they treat the Diesels like red headed step children and the guy that owns the sled has a gas truck that his daughter pulls.

He is also employed by one of the guys that pulls a gas truck here so obviously they get to pull when they want as many times as they want. When we ask to do anything (like pull before 10pm) we are called Whiners... Imagine that!

We have the same interests and I truely expected to get along with everyone we pull with based on that. Unfortunately that isnt the case. And since I am the only one standing up for my class I am looked at as the bad guy!

in your case, thats a case of who you know. its bs, ya, but like it was said it will follow the $. i for one cant stand watching a million morons with an old ford 460 bounce down the track to 100 feet. but i do need time to go get a burger and a beer!

around me, diesels are starting to win RWYB on a regular basis, against some extremely nice tube chassis 4wd gassers. the gassers are complaining, but theyve had it easy for too long and theyre just butt hurt. its competition, we're pushing the envelope now and its time they nut up or shut up!

We have 5 classes thaat we usually run with KOTTPA. 4 gasser classes and Street Diesels. And an optional SS class. We rotate at each pull when the classes are run so nobody is last everytime . When we (diesels) are last the crowd does seem to stick around longer.

Around here the diesels are starting to become the crowd favorite. Some promoters actually asked some pullers last season if the compensation was enough at the end. There are only a few gassers that even pull anymore beyond the local association. Some pulls are basically farm, hot farm, and diesel pickups.
I think some of the gassers get jealous at the power that can be made by a street truck. I do agree that we are all there for the same reason and we should all get along so that the events are as successful as possible.
It isn't just pulling the drag strip hates us too. We get way more grief than it is worth so we are building a puller for next year.

Here in the East Coast series we are a new class and that stings the gas guys. In alot of cases they feel we are taking hooks from them but all we are really doing is making the show better by bringing in a different crowd. My stepdad(Hylton Clark) and my dad (yea i know doesnt sound good, right) held the first sanctioned 4x4 pull by any organization in 1974. They were treated the same way by all the tractor guys because they were different and they were looked at as a threat to the tractor classes same as with us.

A former KOTTPA president was like this a few years ago. Needless to say, he is no longer in office :)

In central MO they used to run the diesels with the modified gassers, until the stock diesels were on the heels of trucks with heavily modded motors. Thats when they decided to give us our own classes.

Can't blame them for comlaining...forced induction against naturally aspirated...come on, anyone proud of that:doh: What bout weight...most gass classes are 6200LB, don't know too many diesels that can make that weight striped down and no hanging weights!

u only complain if you lose

i race a 250 2 stroke against modded 450 thumpers and i dont lose....im not even in the ballpark with power...all about set up!

We mostly have problems with the hot rod tractors and 2wd mod gassers. they say that the diesel trucks tear up the track... But we get to pull 2nd most of the time unless its indoors.

we only have like at most 4 gassers and they are forever going on about pulling with the same weight and having more power and they are better blah blah blah blah

I guess we are lucky in our two organizations

Our guys, gasser and diesel alike, get along great, but then some of the diesel guys are sons n daughters of the ol skool gasser crowd

Personally I would love to see a run between a full mod supercharged gasser, and a full tilt diesel mod - just to see how comparable they are

There is lots to learn from anyone who has been in this sport for say 15-20 years, whether a truckpuller, a tractor puller, gas or diesel

I pulled a full tilt SuperStock for years, and have to say it was every bit as much fun as my ProStreet diesel, and truth to tell some days I miss the throaty roar of a 7500rpm engine singin away

But as Timmie would say " More Power" wins hands down lol

I am definitely a diesel convert
