Gassers vs Diesel Pulling?

Cube for cube, in pulling, I would take the Diesel with a turbo over a gasser with a turbo.
Just call me crazy!!LOL

At the same weight and with unlimited singles, I'd try a gasser. It would make ludicrous HP with twice the rpm as the diesel.

me thinks the diesel would win hands down in an unlimited situation
Its torque that wins not hp, and a 1000 hp gasser is only gonna make around 850-900 ft lbs torque whereas a 1000 hp diesel is gonna make around 1600 or more ft lbs torque
same sled settings, same weight, same chassis, same tires, gears of choice - no contest Me thinks

actually your average BBC w/ either a large single, F3 procharger, medium twins; intercooled, and blow through carb will make 2100 reliable hp and 1500-1800 lb/ft of torque. peak hp 6800 peak tq 5800. 29-30 PSI manifold pressure. just throwing some numbers out there. I pull a gasser and don't know much! :)

Gas vs Diesel

God I love you Gene!:rockwoot: I drag race now so there isn't any rules. That's right I crossed the scales light:doh: after setting a record! Jeff

Apparently you have never seen the alcohol superstock tractors put the whupass on the diesel prostocks.

Yes. Point?

I do think it would be pretty neat to do a cube-for-cube experiment.

Again the diesel would be on the ragged edge with the sigma and the gasser would run all year long. If you built a gasser for maxium hp and tq it will kill the diesel.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, there is a DMAX out here that runs with the supercharged mod cut tire trucks!

Well which is it? run all year long or build it for max?

Gasser and all year long dont add up. I have had too many of them, gassers suck for longevity.

I didn't think the diesels were very good for longevity either at the top level of sled pulling. I'm not saying they blow up every 2 pulls, but they aren't trouble free. Wasn't Haisley replacing a block every 2-3 pulls for awhile?

The dmax was more than likely at 8000# and the SMFD at 6200# or thereabouts. That amount of weight is a big deal IMO. The longevity would definately be better with the power adder gasser deal vs the mod diesel.

A Gasser built corretly will last, as long as you take care of it! In my pro-stock gasser, BBC 470cid, 9,300 RPM, a bit over 800HP and it lasted 3 seasons (never did blow up...just built another one!) with just bearings and valve springs between seasons...

Lets just face the facts Gene you hate gassers and no one is going to tell you that a gasser is better. But i do remember a stock 5.4 liter ford *nx*put the woppin down on u when you came over here to perry county one year. *bdh*You can say what you want about that but you asked for that one that time!

I thought the conversation was comparing gassers to diesels not alcohol to diesels.... :what:

Gas, alcohol, what's the difference? Both take spark plugs LOL

A few drag guys are running E85 with interesting results.

And yeah the top diesels are still chucking parts pretty often. I don't have any idea how long the boosted gassers are lasting. The parts are lighter and in most cases the loads are lower. You're just using high rpm HP to compete with high cylinder pressure torque.
