Gear ratio and Tire size

I was wondering what you guys thought about gear ratios and tire sizes.

My friend is building a motor that should rev around 5000 rpm. He just bought new rear ends, and was wondering what gears he should use. He is currently running 35's but considering running 33's for wheel speed. However this motor should be cranking around 1200hp and he doesn't think wheel speed will be a problem anymore.

Also what are the best tires to run on 16x10's?

Thanks in advance.

a common rail? did he tell you it would rev that high? tell him he is full of it.

Just trust me, it will rev that high, maybe more. Look for it at the TS event, maybe earlier. We just need to know what gears would be the best to run, so it is ready to go on the first hook. He's probably gonna stick with the 35's unless you guys think that is crazy.

Thanks

So you an make a CR rev 5000rpms when no one else can but you don't know what gears to run?

Sad, but true. I can't make it rev that, but I know someone who can and is going to make this motor do it. And sadly enough that guy has no answer for us either. Go figure.

Yes, you can run a HPCR pretty close to 5 grand - just witnessed it again recently... reliability suffers a bit, though.

Go with a 5:00 or lower, so you can pull 4th gear in the 4500 5spd.
Do a search on tires in this forum, there is detailed threads about them.

I would suggest 4.88's then you can fine tune with tires to either increase or decrease.

Screw that, turn the motor harder.

Do you mean tune or turn?

Hes already talking 5000 rpm, Tom. How much harder do you want him to turn it.

4th gear in the 4500, direct is the strongest gear you have. However-35s with a NV 4500-4th low is too much gear with 4:10s and 3rd low is a loser gear.

3rd low will keep you in the ball park, 35s and 3:54s, but you will need every bit of the 5000 rpm.(And it is weaker than 4th.)

Forget the high side of the transfer case.

4:88s may be enough.

Using the low side of the transfercase is always easier on the tranny. I like the idea of the 1:1 on the transmission if it can give you the speeds you want. The 5.38's would be easier on the driveshaft and transfercase though.
