Gear ratio and Tire size

You turned 5500 at Vegas? DOWN the track?

No, right about 5000. 4.10's, 4th gear (NV5600). Thats good for about 31mph. Way too fast.

Why is that too fast? I kept a GPS in my truck for a couple pulls early in the season and saw a 28 MPH land speed.. Was probably faster later in the year as I got it tuned better

Guys were hitting 35+mph track speed at some of the pulls this year. I don't think 31MPH is too fast it is actually probably a little slow especially with a drop pan sled. At Scheid some of the 2.8 street trucks hit almost 40 mph wheel speed.

We have the old style, heavy as he!! out of the hole sleds out here, and this much speed does NOT work well, if you watch some videos of my hooks you will see a combo of a crappy track, heavy sled, and mach 2 wheelspeed out of the hole is not a good combo out here. The sleds out here don't let you "run" with it.

If thats the case, Tom, go up a gear, roast em out of the hole, then let it pull you down at the end.
Get your air pressure down.

I had my tire pressure way down this year, especially with the duals. I never had a track even come close to pulling me down. Its fukkin bullchit these tracks out here.

Sounds like your pulling up here with us also!!! Half our tracks are stone dust (Tire eaters) and the rest are either almost dirt or sand...I only pulled on two tracks this year that were clay and even then the sled couldn't stop me.

In this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=1VzT6r3b0lk I pulled in 5th Low (6speed) and had tons of speed/wheel speed but still blew the tires out the whole track. Tach didn't fall below 4700rpm.

Combination of crap tracks and a Lead Sled...and I think the low power guys have a better chance! I got my but kicked on 2 stone dust tracks this year just because of that!

Exactly!!!!!!!!

heck my dad and I have worked on our own track and its still hard to read sometimes in just a few hours or couple of classes the track can change dry out, get hard as asphalt, or powdery

BFG MT's out back and STS's up front.

Tom
Ever try the STS's all around???? What air psi. Pm me if ya dont want it out in the open.
We have used them longer then probably anyone else. They are a better all around tire then even Gene's "Satan" tires.

I have been using the STS's since the spring of '06, "Flute man Craig" had them on his truck in '05. I have not used them in the back, the BFG's have been the only dual setup I have run to date. I run about 20 psi up front and 35psi in the back

-Tom

I don't like the STS on loose tracks.....They definatly have proved themselves elsewhere, though.

geez id say he will have no problem with that... 1200hp and 33's. I got like 600 and i think i can spin 33's just fine!! I'd say with that kind of motor put it in can and let her eat!

Take into consideration. Guy runnning a 3.0+ charger isn't going to make power down at 3000 rpm. Guy with a 66mm can get by going down to 3000.

Do you mean tune or turn?

Hes already talking 5000 rpm, Tom. How much harder do you want him to turn it.

4th gear in the 4500, direct is the strongest gear you have. However-35s with a NV 4500-4th low is too much gear with 4:10s and 3rd low is a loser gear.

3rd low will keep you in the ball park, 35s and 3:54s, but you will need every bit of the 5000 rpm.(And it is weaker than 4th.)

Forget the high side of the transfer case.

4:88s may be enough.

Why is 4th gear too much for 4:10's and 35's with that much horsepower? and RPM's?
