Hey, i got an 03 Common Rail with a 6-Speed and a single disk prototype clutch and 3:73 gears... which gear do you think i should pull in, im thinking either 3rd or 4th.... 4th gear 3,000 RPM's my ground speed is about 25,26 MPH and 3rd gear low range is about 15-18 if i can remember correctly... so which gear do you think??

I wouldnt try to slip that single disk at all. Get up on the charger quick and let it rip.

Don't get greedy with 4th LO unless you're ready to get out of it immediately if the clutch goes up in smoke - 3rd should be easy with those tires.

4th low on a single disc clutch your ground speed will be 0.0mph! Might get a 0.5 but thats about all..... 3rd low and you'll be fine you won't win but I guarantee you won't be last either.

4th low won't happen on a single, been there tried that. 3rd will work on a stocker so you'll be fine. Run 3rd work on making the truck hook harder, and you'll be suprised.

okay thanks... it is a single disk feramic with a 3400 lb plate load as well??? this is off topic but is there a way to have notifications sent to my email about when people reply?? it does it automaticly on the cummins forum but not sure if you can do that on here?? any idea how?

but the general consensis is 3rd gear then

yeah stay with 3rd low on a single disk. If you want a double disk, I have a Valair 3800 for sale. Has about 500 miles on it and 3 hooks to a sled.

My single went bye bye in 4th:badidea:. Lots of smoke, clutch that is. And it takes quite a while to get the smell out of the cab:bang

like i said I had a feramic single tried it several times. Nothing but slip, 3rd will work on a stock clutch, if launched correctly.

Probably better be saving for a dual disc clutch or maybe even a triple disc. I take it when your saying ground speed you mean your driving with no load at 3000 rpm and watching speedo. My ground speed hooked to sled is usually around 22-26mph and on a loose track has seen as much as 30 mph while blowing the tires off around 40mph.My truck does ok but not nearly the baddest one out there. My point being that you can go hook and have fun with a single but won't be competitive till you get a dual disc. Either way have fun but don't let that clutch slip much off of line or it will be toast.
