Now this. I searched but didnt see anything in the first dozen pages

Saw smoke coming from under my hood and found the grid heater on. So hot you couldnt touch the horn!!

Also my generator light was on

Any idea as to what happened?

Im thinking of unplugging the heater now to prevent this from happeneing again

thanks to all

Hey lewis, it welded itself closed just like a starter solenoid would, just replace it and it will be fine.

The solenoids are mounted on the driver's side wheel-well/fender. They are essentially a high amp-rated relay.

I think I still have the old ones off my 95' Junker Drag truck sitting in my spare parts bin.

I forgot to mention that it is intermittent. It has happened twice in last month and cures itself but I am concerned

replace it and if it still doesnt fix it you have more severe problems; but that should fix it

This happened to me a couple years ago. The relay stuck closed, which made the grid heater stay on continuously instead of cycling like it would normally do. You may have noticed under normal operation they cycle on and off and your lights dim when they are active, but under continuous load the charging system can not keep up causing your voltage to drop and the battery light to come on.

Replace Relays like mentioned above.
