I got ahold of a 2001 24v vp44 engine and tranny from a cab and chassis and I'm gonna put it in a 1970 dodge camper special. Problem is, I have a common rail and have no experience with the vp44. What is needed to get to the 700 hp level and be reliable? I hear the vp44 is the worst of the injection pumps on the cummins. Its gonna be a daily driver with maybe a couple runs on the track. Also I'm gonna use a compound turbo system not a single charger if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Dragon Fire VP44, 250+HP inj., Edge Drag Comp, 64mm Over an S480, O-rings, Head Studs, a cam would help hold the power.

700HP Fuel only isn't easy on a VP truck, needs to be tuned perfectly.

What he said^^^ 700 hp is a huge number with a VP. And even if you got that number, its hard to say how reliable it will be, the VP44 is a finicky creature.

Anyone have any experience with Blue Chip from New Hampshire? I heard they are really good with vp44 stuff.

They offer aftermarket VP's and make the Blue Chip box and the Redline box...arguably some of the best boxes for a 24V.

im hoping to have the fuel to break 700, maybe with just a quick shot of nitrous to spool the turbo, i definatly have the air now.

Take the money and ppump it, then tune said ppump to 700. Live happy ever after. Serious though price a edge comp/smarty/redline/dragon fire pump/big injectors/lines&tubes. Then have pump die six months later.

Isn't there anything that can be done to keep them alive? Doesn't a good lift pump keep them from any problems? Or is there other things that are problematic?

i have alot of machining into my vp44, along w/ some injector work, but when it comes down to it, its still in the back of my mind its going to blow up.

Im not a p-pump fan, only based on the fact that i like an EFI set up, so if (when) my pump blows up, im not sure what im going to do.

Rollin Coal did you EDM or similar machine work to the D.V's? I had heard a guy tried it but never heard results.

We wouldnt mind to hear more of those changes!

Did you make it more reliable or tune for more fuel?

If I pulled the D.V's out of a pump and sent just them to you could you mod just them for me? I am interested in what the net result would be and if it will help make the pump last longer.

that's the easy way out!!! there's no pride in that!

:bang:bang:bang:bang:bang

:hehe:

Nope easy way out is a CR conversion like I am doing:owned: Then stick VP44 motor into brothers truck:kick: and buy a ppump 2wd truck to tune on:evil:evil:evil

i heard a rumor a while back that installing a p-pump onto a 24v engine automatically adds an extra 6 inches to your "manhood"

i tried to scopes it, but i could not find anything about it
