On Jan 26, 09 I bought a new htt super stock 62 turbo from puredieselpower.com remember it has the 71mm killer turbine wheel instead of the 65mm, i run this turbo on my 05 daily driver, this turbo has just 15.000 miles on it and has never seen over 40 psi..cause im running stock injectors, cp3, lp, etc.. i only have a smarty on level 9, a mp-8 and a k&n intake, today while i went for a cruise it failed starting to make a wired noise at 10 psi, has anyone else had this issue? i thought HTT was top Shelf and if i would've abused it with huge injectors i would understand, but this seems kinda strange to me..it still has warranty, on my reciept it says 1 yr, im gonna send it in for a rebuild but i dont trust my Turbo anymore :(

Boost leak? have you tried checking the wheel? I have had boost leaks start to whistle and whine at a certain psi boost. I have run this turbo and several more from HTT and have had good results.

This kind of stuff happens. Call HTT and talk to them first.

Check your compressor outlet v-band clamp. There is also an o-ring there, make sure its still intact.

Have you done a boost leak check? Only takes a few minutes.

No compressor outlet v-band on a CR.(sure you were looking at his sig).

Unless you have visually and physically verified its the turbo, listen to what these members are saying to check.A loose bolt or clamp can cause some high pitch noises.

My brother has a htt 66mm on his dmax, bearings just went out less then 10k mi,took it off and turbine wheel had cracks as well. waste gate set at 40 psi,him not to happy ether

I'm not clear on what failed means? Do you mean it just started to make a noise and then exploded?

Not familiar with this charger but I have left plugs open on the compressor housing of my s468 before and had some funny noises indicate they were out!

CR whats that:hehe:

12 valves ONLY for me.

I've never even seen a engine on a CR!

Parts can and do fail. Talk to HTT, or give Garrett a call. They will get it taken care of for you. It does suck that you're down right now without a truck, but even a stock charger can fail, and leave you stranded.

I just lost the thrust washer in my bd super b special. I only have around 3000 miles on it. I know prob about 8 people that got them way b4 me and have had no problems. Called BD and they said get it off and get it to us and we will handle it.Chit happens the world is not perfect.LIke brett said check your exhaust manifold for leaks manifold leaks can sound like metal to metal.

Thank ya'll for your inputs, i removed air box and noticed the turbo has side play and the wheel just started to touch on the housing..turbine wheel has cracks as well, my issue and yours sound very similar, i think its the bearings and a new turbine wheel, what can be the causes? did the motor loose something so it went thru the turbo that the turbine wheel got a crack and that made the bearings go out? or simply the wheel broke? cause the motor runs 100 % fine when i start it!
So did your brother get warranty on his?

Here are some pics..

When you mofidy something....and it is no longer stock OEM. You can throw the " realiable" apect out the window:doh: leave everything stock if your worried about it blowing up.

Ive got this same turbo on my truck and no issues with it this go round, but I did have this turbo on my 03 and had a issue with the bearings going out of course it wasn't covered by warranty but they rebuilt it for $400 and sent me a brand new turbo from the looks of everything atleast! Its been around the block since then with probably 30k miles on it with 0 issues since and they even gave a 1year warranty after the rebuild. Good luck to ya.

Of course i know that, but what im trying to say is, with a stock fuel system it shouldnt blow, that turbo can take at least 100 hp injectors easy!

I disagree...

check where your elbow meets the compressor housing. sometimes you have to dress down the OD of the inner step to get it to seat properly in the aftermarket S300 compressors

has anyone taken a look at the thrust bearings most s300's on the market come with? It looks like a time bomb to me. ive seen one out of an HTT66. when getting a rebuild insist upon a better thrust bearing...like a 360 degree.

Do you bark the turbo a lot? I am pretty sure that is what kills the thrust plate/washer.

I honestly dont think any of these turbo's are worth what these companys get for them. Yes, they are nice turbo's, but $1500+ for most of them is just too much IMO. I can buy another motor for that!

I also think a Holset charger is pretty tough to beat. I think i have seen more Schwitzers give up than holsets. A lot of guys run their HX35's at 40-50psi for a long time and they dont die. That has to tell something right there. Thats just my opinion though, and unfortunately, there arent very many good sized holsets for our trucks.
