HTT SUPER STOCK 62 fail at 38 psi!

let's see... my SPS62 is 4yrs old, has ~60-70k miles on it has seen 50psi too many times to count, and still feels like a new turbo as far as the shaft play in concerned

the HX40 I had was run at 38psi and tore itself apart in about 60k miles

you look at the shaft and bearings in an S300 vs. a comparable sized Holset, then look at the compressor maps, and tell me which one you think is better :o

A friend of mine ran a stock 05 charger on his 12v with 370 injectors and saw 45-50 psi all the time and it held 2 yr till it died, theyre strong trubos..but i agree 1500+ for them s300 is too much, a 3126 CAT turbo is very similar to the htt 62 and costs around 600 bucks :-)

Like I said. Its MY opinion.

My stock WH1C had 185k miles on it when it died. It had seen 40psi many times. And I would have to imagine 40psi on a 56mm WH1C is about the same shaft speed as 50psi on a 62mm S300. Im 90% sure barking that turbo is the only thing that killed it, since when i took it apart it all looked great except for the thrust washer and plate.

Teddy Bear had a 65mm HX55 on his truck for a while. It ran better than any comparable sized S300 that was ever on the truck, and it had been on 3 trucks within probably the 3 or 4 years before he got it. He sold it to one of our buddies and he is still running it.

You have your opinion, I have mine. But I have seen some holsets hold up to a lot. Not to mention almost all of the open class pullers run Holset chargers.

everyones product can/ will have issues
- My Htt 64 was purchased 10-22-08 last year and the waste gate puck is bad and the waste gate plate was also leaking-
Called Htt- 2 seconds later........ "send it in and we will make it right!!!"

Thats taking care of the customer to me!!

Do you know the specs on the Cat charger? I happen to have one sitting in the garage right now, was hoping I might be able to adapt it to my truck at some point.

Take the housings off and measure the minor diameters of the wheels. That will give you a good idea. My guess is you will need a different exhaust housing, but the rest may work if it has a V-Band outlet.

It's a T3 housing, with a Marmon flange, I believe. The compressor outlet is alot smaller than my WH1C's I have laying next to it. Don't have a torch to heat the turbine so I can knock it off, and my caliper set is MIA right now.

MY HTT (ahem ahem) charger cools decent and make more power than the HX35, although not much. I have now seen its full potiential and am less thean impressed by HTT.

i think they are 65 turbine wheel and 61 inducer if im not wrong..

guess wat..they avoided my warranty and want $1200 dlls to fix it...i cant belive it, they said it need a new center section and a new exhaust housing :(

That sucks... You can almost buy a brand new charger for that.

How much air do you think you really need? I mean what kind of power levels do you think you want to push? Maybe finding a 6.7 manifold and turbo would work for you. There are a couple of members that would probably help you build a control system for the VGT (I simply used a wastegate actuator for my 451). Just a thought though :Cheer:

. Tell them to ship it to II & I promise II will treat you right. Every turbo I bought from HTT had premature failure & they always had some excuse why warranty was void. One time it was because of the thrust bearing going out because we "overpowered the charger". It was a great excuse! The truck was a 98.5 with RV275's & Smarty. Guess we "overpowered" that 62/65/14 very well to warp the exhaust housing like we did.:hehe: I just got the same treatment once again when my POS 3 piece junk manifold cracked. Great service from HTT!....If you like getting ^%&^%$:umno:

Send it off to Engineered Diesel. I have ran HTT and I.I. and now the E.D..

E.D. has THE BEST customer service around!

AND, they are WAY cheaper than the other two.

I still find it ridiculous that HTT and I.I. can sell a turbo that I bought for $1100 3 years ago shipped WITH a downpipe for what almost $1800 now!
NOTHING has changed with the chargers, BUT yet that can sure rip us off!
Its not like they are custom making parts, all of the turbos are off the shel Borg Warner parts and all they do is put them together and balance them.

I was also told by another company (that I wont mention) that they have taken 2 of the same HTT or I.I. turbos, dynoed them on the same truck and have seen 100hp difference. They said its because of how LOOSE they set up the tolerances on the chargers.

I've been hearing great things about E.D.

I have run a bunch of S300 based turbos... most were II products, but I've had some HTT stuff... I haven't spent a lot of money with E.D., but I've been treated like a king by Chris @ E.D. since the first time I talked w/ him.

I'm running E.D. product on my truck, and I love it.

Their knowledge and customer service is tops IMO
