HTT SUPER STOCK 62 fail at 38 psi!

I had the thrust bearing go on my HTT Prostreet 66/71-16ss. Shifting into OD @ around 45psi with a trailer behind me, barked a little bit then sounded like it was coming through the firewall. Come to find out the thrust bearing let go and the compressor housing/compressor wheel, as well as the turbine wheel and center section were all destroyed. I had John at Majestic Turbo rebuild it with one of his 360* thrust bearings. This doesn't sound real similar but I for one wouldn't trust the 270* 3 pad thrust bearings HTT puts in those bastards.

I think the 360 bearings are fairly new and I know all the turbo shops are soon to be if not already offering them as an "upgrade", that should be a standard item.:bang

I have run a bunch of S300 based turbos... most were II products, but I've had some HTT stuff... I haven't spent a lot of money with E.D., but I've been treated like a king by Chris @ E.D. since the first time I talked w/ him.

I'm running E.D. product on my truck, and I love it.

Their knowledge and customer service is tops IMO

Thats how it used to be at HTT when Paul worked there. I think when he left, he took customer service & customer appreciation out the door with him. I don't know how true it is, but rumor has it that he was fired for it. Not sure if the source can be trusted though.

That sucks... You can almost buy a brand new charger for that.

How much air do you think you really need? I mean what kind of power levels do you think you want to push? Maybe finding a 6.7 manifold and turbo would work for you. There are a couple of members that would probably help you build a control system for the VGT (I simply used a wastegate actuator for my 451). Just a thought though :Cheer:

yea its really expensive, i want to push around 750 hp, i wanna use that turbo in a twin setup with a s480 on bottom, so a 6.7 mainfold is almost as good as a 3piece aftermarket one?

. Tell them to ship it to II & I promise II will treat you right. Every turbo I bought from HTT had premature failure & they always had some excuse why warranty was void. One time it was because of the thrust bearing going out because we "overpowered the charger". It was a great excuse! The truck was a 98.5 with RV275's & Smarty. Guess we "overpowered" that 62/65/14 very well to warp the exhaust housing like we did.:hehe: I just got the same treatment once again when my POS 3 piece junk manifold cracked. Great service from HTT!....If you like getting ^%&^%$:umno:

Yea i know, they said why mine went bad was cuz something came out of the engine and hit the turbine wheel, i inspected that and i put on another charger i had layin and already put another 1500 miles after the turbo failture and the engine runs like new!!! and i also never "overpowered" the turbo im running stock fuel system with a smarty, Im disapointed in HTT..
Im thinkin about II or E.D. Looks like everyone is pretty happy with E.D.

Something came out of the engine and hit the exhaust wheel and that's what caused it to fail? That's the best excuse they can come up with? Come on. Dodge gave me a better excuse when they tried to blame my lift pump killing my cruise control. LOL

I wouldn't say that, it is still a one piece design. Not sure if there is an aftermarket option out there for them yet, at least I doubt there would be with the goofy T4i flange that the 351ve has.

But there is a member here (forget his name) who has reportedly made more than 700hp with his 6.7 on a stock turbo and an S400 bottom charger :Cheer:

When you mofidy something....and it is no longer stock OEM. You can throw the " realiable" apect out the window:doh: leave everything stock if your worried about it blowing up.

Because OEM engineers are Gods....

LMAO!!!!!!! and dealership techs are too!

You sit & drink a few beers with the dealership techs I know.....you will hear some ridiculous stories. Those guys approach lunch time or quitting time, they throw the extra bolts in the drawer & send them out.

A high pitched noise can somtimes be a exhaust leak mine was leaking from #6 manifold gasket and i called my shop freaking out that my turbo was pooched

Or a chunk of your external wastegate lodged in the exhaust housing.
