Injector testing Today.....

Here it is. Ofcourse this is a much more extreme example of too much gear than what I have :hehe:

Buck's Comm. Racing goes 10.7@117 - Competition Diesel.Com - Bringing The BEST Together

Weston's post #8. Make's perfect sense.

About as bad as me running 6.18 @ 110+ in the 1/8th but only 10.34 @ 119 in the 1/4, the second half was a governed coast.... one's either got to have an overdrive or correctly gear the veh. to the torque curve to get the speed out of them....

Nick...

As for more air......
I would have to second what Lloyd has said about it.The question he asked was a valid one and yet everyone has dodged it.So I will ask you the same question knowing your running a larger S series charger....WHY?.There are many people who have said and showed how they have laid bigger numbers down with smaller chargers and less fuel.Application can only count for so much of a difference and when the numbers show a significant difference then I missed the boat somewhere, and I do not feel I have yet done that.
This is one thing that I don't understand, it's never made sense to me that the 64 will run better on the 12v than a 66. Being fortunate enough to have a dyno proved the 64 to be a better charger on my truck. With a Bell USB 62/65/12 I made 564 pegging my 1600* pyro, with no other changes put a HTT P.S.66/71/14 on and made 581 still pegging the 1600* pyro. The 66 didn't shine until I put 191's in and bumped the timing and it made 636 still pegging the pyro. I played with the wastegate's on both turbos to try and get more power and cooler egt's from 40psi to 60psi boost and egt's wouldn't change, but the higher the boost the more HP there was. I put the BD Super B Special on with no changes from the 636 run and power went up to 665 with egt's dropping down to 1400* at 58psi.

You have the turbo and the mod's to make the power, you just have to play with it and make one change at a time to see if it helps or hurts power. It looks for the most part your pretty dialed so start playing with timing.

The things I learned on the dyno are first dial in the AFC to control bottom end fueling and how it comes on. Then play with the plate,I didn't have luck with no plate, a 0 plate, a 100. I haven't really said out in the open before what plate I run because of all of the negativity in a lot of the threads, but I did tell it to the people that pm'd me and asked. I just have a #6 plate in my pump, I think it works well to help control bottom end fueling so you don't have to set the AFC so tight that it get's coil bind and limits the rack travel. Play with the wastegate to see if you can get the HP numbers to go up or down, also setting the wastegate tighter helped me spool the turbo faster. I wish I would have had a drive pressure gauge on for the testing because I know running around 55 to 60psi my dp should be through the roof which everybody says will make less power. Once I got the air figured out I started to play with timing. Adding timing or decreasing timing made the biggest difference power wise on any of the changes I made.

Great post Brett! I know it's been said or refered to that the 64/71 turbo is damn near a magic combination on the 12v. Hard to say exactly why it works so well.

I am one of those that's pm'd you about your plate. I know you run a 215 pump and believe you said you ran a 2095 rack cap. When I put a 2095 rack cap in my pump it sucked! When I left the 2095 rack cap in and put a zero plate in close to full forward it still sucked. When I took the cap off and replaced it with a stocker things ran better. I wonder if in your case the rack plug made the 6 plate out to be better than it would be if you had a zero plate in with a stock rack cap or no plate with a stock cap? Just perhaps an idea, maybe not a good one.

PS the drive pressure thing is a trade off in my experience. When I had my quick spool flange and was having opening issues with the volute butterfly and seeing rediculous drive pressure the truck still got to 100mph faster than it ever did with less boost and much less drive. Even with around 80psi drive and 55 psi the truck felt stronger than it does with about the same boost and 55 psi drive.

Nick, I do have a 2095 rack plug, but I don't think it is aiding me in extra rack travel due to how my governer arm is set up, the arm rides up the plate and stops about an 1/8" away from where the flat part of the plate is. I just put the plug in because I had it. If i end up pulling my pump off for anything I will try to get the rack travel measured.

That's my point Brett. Because you have the rack plug in it may make a non flat #6 plate perform better than a flat plate (0 plate) or no plate at all. Just food for thought$.02:Cheer:

What spring are you rinning in your AFC? Im running a stock governor spring with no plate, & stock plug right now. Think im might hit the track tomorrow nite to see what 598hp will net me.

I'm running a 180 pump gov spring, good luck at the track.

I know this is a 12v thread, but my super b special ran very strong on my vp truck as well. If I ever go back to another single for the street and for track fun, it will be another 64. Best all around single that can still make awesome power in my opinion.

Shifty....
Not saying that its not a good charger......
BUT....
If you have read the entire thread you would see that they are telling me that my 66/71 is not enough charger for the job to get done so then how would I benefit from a smaller charger?.

Brett...
TimeBomb has done extensive testing with his truck and the AFC and even removed it for someone elses and went and tuned it also. There is not alot to be gained with AFC work after one has been set on the stand in my opinion after seeing what Rick learned on his.

We are going to go back and recheck the timing and I may also either get the pulse line adapter to time it or find someone out East here who can spill port time it.

I understand that man, just re-enforcing what Brett had said about it being a good charger. He picked up hp and lowered egt's going to a 64 from a 66, so who knows.

Milage so far has been a bit better than my ECD's.The first full tank I ran I got 20.2 around town and back and forth to work. They are so smooth when you drive them it amazes me.The transition from off throttle to easing into it where mine would flutter some, these just pick up and go with no flutter or hesitation. They also out accelerate my old when you snap the throttle as the motor seems more responsive with them.

Cruising boost has been a tad higher at 65mph,with the ECD's I ran around 1-2 psi on the level, and with the Weston's it runs around 4-5 psi.I told Weston that these are alot more friendly in the EGt area also. The ECD's were a bit cooler just driving but when you swatted the throttle the EGT's climb very quickly and almost make you wonder.Westons run a tad warmer up the road(about 100 degrees higher)under normal driving conditions but when you swat the fat pedal the boost comes on alot quicker and the EGT's begin to rise. However, with Weston's they reach a point which is lower than what I seen with the others and then just seem to level off on top.It was nothing to see 1600-1700 degrees with the ECD's under heavy acceleration but with Weston's I am seeing 1500-1600 under the same acceleration load.

Time will tell how they run long term and I need to get a couple of more tanks of fuel through them.I am going to be very interested in seeing how they work with winter fuel blends as they will start using them in our area later this month and my trucks milage gets terrible on that crap.I will keep you posted on what and how they continue to work......Andy

well im going to put a smaller turbo to the test!, should have my new 62/68/13ss with the super 62 wheel, and race cover early next week from ED, along with Levi's blankets, it is going to a quick spooling combo for sure, i can't wait to see the torque numbers! im sure it will be quite different that my pervious turbo, a 66/65/14 from HTT. i hope that it will have enough air for what i want to do. im not that concerned about the smaller compressor, that really should almost flow close to what a 64 will flow, im trying to make the truck a better daily driver, this should defenatley help!

Your going to love it! Every time I drive my truck, I get a big smile on my face.

I just raced my buddy. He has an 09 Mustang GT with intake and exhaust. Last time at the track he ran a 13.3 in the 1/4.
I beat him by 2-3 cars everytime, we raced 4 times. Boy, was he pissed:hehe:

I cant wait to get the S475 on!:evil
