I twisted off my billet input in my suncoast converter and the remainder of the shaft won't come out. Suncoast wants 650 to reman it and a local shop in Waco "thinks" they can fix it. I might also still be able to tap the piece and slide hammer it out. What would yall do? I want it done right but after fixing the tranny that 650 sure is hard to let go of.

Call Goerend. Last I knew he would cut the convertor open, and push it out.

Wonder if suncoast is pretty much remaning the convertor for you. I mean if they go through the trouble of cutting it open, they might as well put new pieces inside it.

So you broke a piece of the shaft off in it? But the tc is undamaged? The tappin it and pulling out part sounds good.

But I'd probably shell out the 650 just to make sure it's all good.

Cut the converter apart and pull the broken stub out. You should be able to do this at home provided you have the tools.

drill center of shaft, tap that hole, thread bolt into hole, pull on that bolt with slide hammer ? depending on where it is broken, would be my figure. unlsee it is something that has to be disassembled to remove........

Billet input shaft sounds like hard steel to drill and tap. Might be better off welding a bolt or something.

I agree, forget tapping, just tack weld a bolt on and slide hammer it out.

I would be a little worried about the converter if you twisted the shaft off in it though. I would probably try and get the shaft out myself and send it off to be checked anyway. (depending on costs anyway) if its cheap then send it in for an inspection only , if its gonna cost a few hundred bucks then toss it in and see how it performs, worst case scenario you waste your time pulling the trans again to swap converters.

I believe i would send it in for peace of mind. I did the same thing w/an ats trans. broke the input off and wasted the oil pump. on mine it was so deep in that u couldn't get a welder in to weld a bolt on. you never know, it could have messed up the splines or damaged something inside thats not visible. If all you had to worry about was the converter i would say try to get it out and run it, however, don't know how yours broke but there's really no way to know if you got all the metal out or not. I was afraid there would be some stray piece of billet floating around in my trans or converter just waiting to jam something up.$.02

You can call John Gobel in Waco. He builds race trannys at his house and teaches at TSTC. He has a full shop, with trans dyno, lathes, mills, ect. He built a strong trans in my old white truck. I have his number if you want it, I doubt he would charge much, if anything to help you out.

Daniel you've touched my transmission once and all you did was adjust the TV cable so I don't wanna hear it. LOL
