Installing straps on the leaf springs

I cut some straps to bolt the leaf spring pack together. Is there any advantage of putting a strap in front of the axle, or is the spring trying to spread apart only behind the axle? I have enough to put two staps behind the axle and one in front, but thought I would ask. Thanks.

Most guys put one strap on front of the axle. You are correct that the rear of the pack tries to separate and the front tries to compress tighter. A strap on the front "preloads" the pack tighter so that it doesn't move much and it adds rigidity to the leaf pack lessening the amount of "S shaped" leaf pack deflection.

A second clamp added to the back of the pack will prevent separation and will undoubtedly help with axle wrap, it just might make the rear suspension too tight. You'd have to try it and see how it rides, drives, and hooks up.
