Just reviewing a few sled pulls..........

what would be the best clutch for the kind of sled pulling your doing?

I love my Iron Giant I had many come up to me and say WOW I wish I could snap the tire off like u but I would like to try a weighted clutch for giggles, the clutch I was using in the vid was a 3850 12 CB which lasted a ton of hooks.

Thought about an IG, or haisley. What would be better?

Where would you get a weighted clutch? How much do they cost?
Whats the feel of a weighted clutch, can you slip it most of the way and snap just the end of the release?

Kenny's machine also has a decently price triple disc weighted clutch. My brother run's it in his 01 and it works pretty good. Isn't that bad to drive around town either.

It seems to me Kenny's clutches are hit or miss............U love it or u get a piece of chit. I think if I go this route Haisley has my vote.

Weighted clutches react by how you set them up, but if you set them up too loose and slip the chit out of it, your in the same boat as you were with a non weighted clutch, burning it down and costing a fortune. If you don't have enough motor, you don't have enough motor, plain and simple. Don't put that strain on the clutch trying to light a huge turbo without the rpm, all that will cost you is a boatload of money.

What advantage would a weighted dual disk have over a regular tripple?

Just remember the plate load of a weighted clutch sky rockets once the flyweights take over, not to be replicated by a non weighted clutch.

I fully understand, I dont want to just side step a clutch either, bad chit happens. Also I slipped it a little longer last season because it seemed to work the best with loading that monster pump.

The best way for a clutch to last is get the truck rolling and then buzz the tires off, it will also aid in maintaining rpm.

Well that is what I do anyways. except when launching in 5th on the low side:bang

Yeah It takes a bit to get it moving, but when it goes it rolls:evil

Thank you both for your input and information:thankyou2:

Running a big gear and slipping it (triple), now they have 2 or 3 style iron clutches now, mine are very grabby they wont hardly slip but thats what I wanted

2 things. I vote Brandon puts an auto trans in :D and then I think he needs to go to a 4 inch stack. Imagine how fast and high the smoke would roll! LOL

my pockets arent deep enough for weighted triples yet...the Iron giant will have to do for me.

good thing is if i ever do go triple my tranny is already modified for it because when ted sterner ran this tranny in his p-pumped 3rd gen he had a triple in it.

The thing about a weighted clutch, is you start to narrow your gear choice, tire choice etc.

Lets say you come to a loose track. With a IG you go up a gear, slip the clutch a hair more, run down the track at lower rpms, but more wheelspeed.
With a weighted clutch, now you cant run lower rpm, so you ruin the clutch trying to do it, or you stay in the high rpm gear and hurt your motor cause yo ucant hook up.

The weights give you a very narrow margin of error.
