Let's talk S465

Be careful doing that. Scheid rules do not allow it. TS rules didn't either. Nobody protested it.

Yeah, for those the guys are having them CNC down the comp wheels at a radius on the inducer. Same thing they have been doing for many years in drag racing on tip to tip rules.

Most of the turbos we are doing now have the wheel into the inducer .125.

To me anyway, this is still a turbo that is technically to big for 2.6 or you wouldn have to trim the wheel. It doesnt bother me that you and others are doing that, but it should also be allowed to buy a 2.8 like mine and put a bushing in the inlet. Both ways are loopholes so why is one better than the other and it happens to be the more expensive way is the okay one.

Have you guys done actual flow test comparing your custom sled pulling 2.6 vs. a factory 2.8 like mine with a 2.6 bushing in the inducer bore. My turbo is the s400sx part number 177248 which is 71mm comp, 84/74 mm turbin with a 1.10 t4 housing.?

Im going to guess that yours will probably flow close too if not more than mine because the exducer of the wheel is stil roughly the same size. Plus you can have differnt turbin wheels in there too.

This is by no means calling anybody out or stirring the pot. But i do wonder why if you "spend the money it is okay". I dont have the money so therefore im protested or called out for an illegal turbo. This hasnt happend yet but you know what im saying. I have been honest about what i am going to do to run the 2.6 class and that is get a custom cover made or just get a bushing welded in my cover.$.02

I agree completely...

I posted this question in general to everyone a year or two ago and no one would really speak up to how much difference there would be (hp wise). For example a 2.8 charger or a 3.0 charger bushed down to 2.8. I'm sure there are guys that have dyno'd back to back...

50 hp is a reasonable number. As far as bushing vs contoured wheel, well usually the $$$ matter. Of course what happensis guys start bushing down 80mm chargers.

its always about the mighty coin

in ohio u cant bush down a turbo it must be a cover . got bumped out of hot stock last night to exibition cause of that.

in a prevous post i mentioned the conversation with gene from nadm whats the difference he really didn't have a good answer.

I guess to answer why one is legal and the other isn't; would be that you can check if a cover has a bushing easy at the tech line. You cannot tear a charger down to inspect the compressor wheel easily.

On a Duramax and Power Stroke, it would take a couple hours to pull a charger, inspect the wheel and get it back on. Not really feasible at the track.

I bought a stage 3 465 Engineered Diesel turbo this fall, and it will only build 40psi boost. It has a 1.0 housing and a very large exhaust wheel (I forget the actual size). I like the charger it pulls hard, but a little laggy. It never clears up the smoke. Do you think that I got setup issues?

You can detect a step in the cover with your finger.

Did you talk to Chris at ED?

Yes I talked to them yesterday. He said that with that turbo it is set up to run low boost (restriction) but still move alot of air.

Snedge on here. Mumau diesel

I didn't realize Jeff could get/sells stock S400's. I would definately give him a call, while I didn't have a horrible experience with FI Diesels aren't their bread and butter so call Jeff @ Mumau first 724-354-3136! I haven't even ordered anything from the man yet, but I've talked to him a couple of times and he is very willing to help with anything you need!:rockwoot:
