lockers/spools vs. welding spiders

Jeremy, would you suggest welding my front carrier or finding a limited slip to put up front in my truck?

If you still have your CAD then weld it, but if you have done away with it then i would put the OEM posi unit out of the D60 rear in it thats what was in mine and it worked good and could still turn it in the pits. If you deleted the CAD andand wleded it you would cuse every time you had to turn it

I still have the CAD but its current not functional due to the 271 transfer case. I could put a posi-lock cable on it, or rig something up with a vacuum source from somewhere else and a vacuum switch to make it lock and unlock.

If im not mistaken the stuff off the 241 will work on the 271 so you can still use the CAD

Posi-Lok!!! I love mine in my 97! Little pita to adjust when installing, but the only thing that could be better would be lock out hubs!

i can take the 271 apart and modify the plate inside it, i just need to add a notch to it that allows the ball from the vacuum switch to drop down into. ill prolly just go with a posi-lock tho

you can get lock out hubs but they are high dollar. dynatrac has them and call it a free spin kit. There priced around $1800 bucks. I been thinking about them for my AAM 9.25 Has any one tried the detroit truetrac in a AAM 9.25 going to put one in before next season. I loved it when i put one in my Dana80 in my dually.

Have you looked into the Eaton Elocker at all? People I know that run the AAM 9.25 front axle have had good luck with that setup. Also, Yukon Axle & Gear makes what is called the Grizzly Locker for the AAM 11.50 rearend. It works like a true Detroit Locker, but it is stronger and about 150 bucks cheaper than the Detroit. ARB is in the beta testing stage of their air locker for the AAM 11.50 rearend as well.

yeah yukon does I think they are like 1200 bucks... thats why i miller locked mine..lol i also didnt have a factory posi...f-dodge...jk

has any one done this on the AAM 9.25 i been thinking about it to save some cash instead of getting a locker for the front. I have done this on jeeps but they didnt have the tq or hp as my cummins.

Yes. Works great. I still prefer a spool in the back. But my welded front end has held up better then my Elocker did.

ARB would be a great way to go if you need your diff to work now and then. They also now make a Locker for the AAM 11.5 and will suposedly be making different size splined version for some of the aftermarket big shafts.

I knew that, just was saying Posi-Lok was the next best thing to lock outs. Those kits are rediculous!

So explain to me how you are not loosing a ton of footage by running an open carrier with it not welded. I would have to guess you would have to be loosing 10-15 feet by not having the rear welded by the incosistancy in a track. The right side tires hit a tight spot it sends all the power to the left thats still in a soft spot. Doesnt seem like it would work very well care to explain the theory.

I'v always ran an open carrier sence 05 and all the vids I took the back kicked out when I was stoped and spining , not saying it would help but I dont see the 10 to 15 ft in my setup

Yukon spools are 600+ D80

Kinda like I've always had an open front carrier in my 97's front axle its oem bone stock except for the posi-lok. Every vid I've ever seen of my truck both front tires are spinning?:what:

The yukon spool isn't that expensive. The one we put in Lynn's 2wd was around $550.

Well which is it, if you have a posi-lok then you dont have an open carrier you cant have both and if you do have an open carrier how do you know both tires are spinning the same speed just because you see dirt flying dosent mean it flying at the same rate

Yes Rodney I have a CAD, and that's what I was meaning disturbed I have a posi lok "cable" actuator ;)

Ok i thought you ment you had a posi differental not the actuator
