loping tune for 6.5

Been a long time since I looked at one; but it wasn't anything controllable with a 6.5's computer IIRC
There is. It just needs tuned, much like the Duramax. I intend to find what exactly to do too. It should be as easy as it is on the Duramax, but I'll have to wait and see.

im not new to the 6.5 scene. i know all about them and i know you cant switch tunes as of now.
You definatly can switch tunes as of now.

You can also take injection lines off of mid 80's 6.2 on it and it will raise the psi to the injectors.
Won't work. The fittings are different from the DB2 to the DS4 pumps.

Laughin my ass off at this whole thread!

you and me both....:shake:

You can add me to the list too.

Pretty funny i just did it to a customer truck. Its been fine.

We had one make a lope-ish noise.

Then we gathered the main caps out of the road.

I think the Cummins guys in this thread is hilarious. You all know the 6.5 so well to talk **** about it eh? Meh :bang

95 model,

I started out in the 6.5 as my frist diesel truck and i still work on it tell this day. I've messed with them enough that you can bust the block with the bottom end where main cap's are. So im not talking smack. My 93 i had would run with a 02 dmax with superchip at one point in time. Now its on its last leg been the boy that bougth it from me has abused the truck.

Got any pics of the 95? I know many guys that have converted to mechanical injection couldn't use their stock lines, and my 6.2 lines definatly won't interchange with my 6.5 lines, all because of fitting differences. I'm really interested in how you pulled it off.

Unfortunatly, you don't have to mess with these engines to break the block, just start them up. Please tell more about your 93 though. You can't tell us that little bit and leave us hanging!

i never said i knew a 6.5 or care to. and i wasnt talking chit. i simply asked a question that has yet to get answered.. what is the point of a lope tune? i get you want performance tunes.. but why make it lope too? whats the reasoning?

it sounds cool. same reason people like no mufflers and stacks. no other reason. everyone likes different things

I had multiple 6.2 and 6.5's as company trucks between 1993 and 1998. Pretty sure I spent thousands trying to make them NOT lope, or even pull their own weight. LOL Between the injection pumps and the junk auto's behind them they were an endless headache. Tried 2 Dodge's in 2001 that were just as bad. Been running Ford's ever since. Even with the bad rep the 6.0's earned in 2003-2005 they were heads above either of those for reliability.

the aftermarket has provided ways of making them reliable. few hundred dollars and parts and you can have a very reliable diesel truck. by the way theres nothing wrong with the ip's on 6.5s its the little black box on the side of the injection pump called a pmd thats the culprit

Yeah...we know...but reliable or not, they are still gutless wonders...albeit, better than a big block!

well when your ip cant flow enough fuel to run a stock duramax lb7 programming it should be no surprise its slow compared to today's standards

Rule #1 You NEVER mod trucks that haul checks. Increase in reliability or not ALL my company vehicles stay bone stock and are replaced when the warranty expires. And yeah I know all about the PMD's failing from heat and the whole relocation deal as a fix, but as stated above you still have a gutless wonder that a 300 straight 6 Ford gasser will out pull and last longer doing it. Not to even get into the front suspension on those C/K's that almost fold under the weight of the engine sitting still.

Yeah...it's ONLY the injection pump that is bad on them...

My old 95 Cummins can run with about anything else on the road with 20K in tow, what with 365K miles on here with the original pump and headgasket...a 6.5 would be lucky to do that at all, let alone with original parts on it.
We tried to run a 6.5 in a service truck a while back, but after it cracked the first set of heads, ruined the tranny, and lost 3 PMD's we gave up on it and went back to gassers.

I'm not saying they are bad engines, just bad diesels...diesels are meant to work hard, and last a long time...the 6.5 is meant to cruise around in a 1/2 ton and get 25mpg...JMHO

Chris

i agree the 6.5 is light duty engine. but with a few modifications that the aftermarket has provided it can still be a decent truck
