and that is good ? :bang
Its more than what my $700 code scanner/tire size adjuster can do
and that is good ? :bang
carchris how about you run both and post your results? yes, no,,,, maybe?
I will pay for the dyno time and a nice tip $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Ummmmmmm....Ok....So much for an answer or even some input about the timing and RPM conversation going on in this thread....sorry guys....Must be he doesnt know, because it would suck to be a hard earned money spending consumer that just bought a product from them and realize thats all your getting for support.
OK, let me chime in here. I am not doing this to step on toes, I am doing this so that everyone knows what is going on.
First and foremost realize that there are 2 computers to deal with 1.) ECM 2.) Controllor on top of the VP44.
This is the problem for the VP44 trucks, if there was a way to reprogram or modify the VP44 controller then we would not be having this discussion but, it is not a flashable controller, never has been and never will be. That is the bottle neck and there are only a couple of ways around it.
Now,I could possibly see how the Smarty could get 4K rpms but, I think it is going to be hard and I think the power will fall fast. Who knows though, it is possible Marco figured something tricky out?
I can get to 4K rpms but, if you do not have the right setup for it then it is useless. If you do not have the fuel for it then you will not even get 4K to start with, even with the Redline. A stock truck will not go 4K, there is not enough fuel supply through stock injectors to supply enough fuel at those rpms to override the rev limiter.
Here is how this work. When you reach the rev limiter the vp44 controller shuts off the fueling parameters and goes into a static "safe" timing mode, sort of like a limp mode. I do not care what you program it to or override, the VP44 will only do this regardless of anything. This is the same type logic that keeps us from getting more than about 65hp from the VP. It does not care and when it is in these safe modes it is going to limit it without regard to anything else.
I can command anything I want from the VP on the BUS and at the rev limiter it does not matter period.
The Redline does not ignore the ECM. In fact the Redline has no idea what the ECM is asking for as it is not plugged into anything to gain this information. I have talked to Chip Fisher and he is a super guy and obviously knows these trucks, there is no doubt but, even he will tell you he is not ignoring the ECM.
So, to answer some questions. There is no way the Smarty is going to alter timing in any way, shape or form once factory limits are reached. The VP will not allow it.
The Redline is not ignoring anything, it is just doing things so far out of parameter without any say so on the BUS that it throws a gillion lights. There is no way around this with the connections that they have on the Redline, that is just the way it goes.
I personally see no advantage to more revs except in the most extreme cases of the Pro pulling trucks. If you need 1000hp and over 4K rpms then you need a p-pump and a lot more.
I will keep working with guys on the 4K stuff but, it is really pretty pointless in my opinion and what works well on one truck might not work as well on another due to supporting mods needed. We are in a more unique situation than the Smarty or the Redline because we have the hardware to manipulate the Bus stuff more like the Smarty and the pump solenoid itself more like the Redline. Because of this I am not getting the CEL right now at 4K but, I am not sure I am getting 100% of the trucks to 4K.
It is pretty tough to work on because I released a tune that would go to 4K and only about 4 people reported even trying it and they all got to 4K. With that few of people actually giving feedback it is hard to start making changes.
Hope that helps some.
Hopefully my Adrenaline can do atleast that (fingers crossed)
