NADM Clean Diesel Challenge

Matt's truck does run pretty clean... He's a contender!

How many are going to show up at the Rock running a clean POWERFUL diesel? I know Matt has a challenge standing here - who else dares to run against him???????:kick:

Did I mention the first person to win this award will be featured in Diesel World Magazine and the NADM newsletter?

Quite a few manufacturers are watching this competition and who will/how win!

All available at the Rock on April 11th!

Several sponsors will be at the rock to watch the first clean diesel challenge, I'm sure looking at what teams are worthy of supporting for the next year?

Who's going to make a good showing?

Ron, will this challenge be broken down into classes ? I think some of us can have clean power but, won't be close to keeping up with say a pro street

i look forward to competing in this . my trucks is a good contender .depending on what et's others get . mine arent to shabby

Wish they had this in the workstock class at SDX08 pull lol. I know I only finished 16th, but about the only smoke I made was just a slight haze on the starting line lol. (Nevermind the sig pic, that was from a clogged air filter and only 15lbs of boost)

kino - NADM is going to have this at the sled pulls! Sleddy just has to work out the guidelines! Your truck would fit nicely since the challenge is for street trucks!

Forgive the stupid question please...

Would there be any benifit to having the competition on a dyno as opposed to on the track.

If on a dyno, the judges opinion could be made from several feet away vs a hundred feet away. This also would be easier for pulling trucks to compete. This would give a "constant variable"...the dyno opperator as opposed to 16 different drivers. Also, IF IM NOT MISTAKEN (and I very well could be), But I believe I have seen dynos that have had a sensor of some sort inserted in or on the tip to measure emmisions.

Not trying to stur the pot, I think the competition and challange is a great idea. Im just picturing people looking for smoke at the end of the track on a day with a good breeze. Anyways that is my $.02 and is still probably a :badidea:

very few prostreet level trucks will make the street legal criteria.

where does it say it's street legal only ? from everything I see, it's a " clean diesel challenge " meaning anyone who thinks they have a clean running truck. Fastest/cleanest ET wins so you couldn't have pro street and street truck running against each other

ok, I see where Dave said it but, Ron also said there's others that aren't street legal asking if that can step up. I'm sure they won't disappoint those guys if they're wanting to run

Get with Dunbar on the details but this is from an earlier post!

. . . from Dave

Any street legal full bodied truck can enter.

To start, we will have the challenge and limit it to 16 trucks per event. Trucks will make side by side passes being judged on emitted smoke, by people we select from the crowd. This will be on a scale of 1-10 for smoke level. 10 being dead clean, 0 being total blackout. This WILL be a subjective rating based on each individual judges opinion.

You will also be awarded performance points for your achieved ET based on a fixed scale I have developed. Currently, no performance points are awarded for a truck 14.7 seconds or slower and 10 points are awarded for anyone that can run a 10.0 or quicker. The scale drops 1 point for every .5 second. This may change as I "run through" some examples.

There is a 60 foot grace period (judging will start at the 60' cone) for now to give competitors time to get on top of their turbo(s).

Judge scores will be totaled, and averaged between them to determine the winner. In the event of a tie, ET will be used, and if there is still a tie, we will have the judges vote a winner.

I want to include N2O, but will need to see how I balance that with points. I will probably deduct points for N2O use. Why, this is a street class. It is designed to see how many of you CAN make street legal power cleanly. N2O is not legal for the street. But, we also want to encourage less smoke on the track, and N2O is good for that. It is easier to bolt on a NX kit than to match pistons, injectors, turbo(s) and tuning for clean power. I believe we should recognize that in some way.

We are calling this a challenge, because that is what it is. NADM wants to see if you guys can make power without the smoke. It's meant to be fun, and the guys that win it will be featured in our newsletter and website (and possibly other media) so we can share what this person did to achieve that victory. There are lots of people out there that want big power without the smoke. We should be able to provide some good examples of ways to do it.

Anyone competing in this challenge can still run the normal classes. Since this is one pass for each entrant, it should not interfere with your competition rounds.

Comments and opinions are welcome...

Might clarify a few things - I'm glad to hear so many want to give a chance!:clap::clap:

There was a single CP3 dmax in AZ running 11.7s, no drugs, with only a light haze....it can be done folks!

Ahh, the Rock.

Right now, the class is for street legal trucks. I can't wait to see these trucks run. I hear we have a couple that have been tuning for it. :rockwoot:

Since you get points for time and smoke, no need for multiple classes.

Who's gonna win it? George, you need to be here.
