Once a lemon always a lemon?

I wouldn't desecrate the truck by swapping a Cummings in it

x2 on that

I'd buy a used gas saver car and keep miles off of the truck. Even a 6.0L can't break down if miles are kept off of it. LOL

It sure sounds like a gas saver would cost the same as your next break down.

A guy at work has an 05 with 22k miles. Uses it only to run up to UP Michigan for snowmobile riding. Blown 4 turbos and a set of head gaskets. The Ford dealer told him that this is a rare occurrence. Can't tell him ant different.

A 6.0l is only as good as it's mechanic. I haven't had much trouble out of mine. The biggest pita was a chagrin issue.

I can't complain. She has been a great truck!

Which my truck has been a freak of nature so what do I know. LOL

I've had so many boys tell me "well MY 6.0 has 1xxk miles on it and I've never had an issue, you MUST be beating on it." Some people just get lucky! Then theres people like me.

the 100K mark is a big one for the 6.ohs.. It starts with that wonderfull gold coolant then head gaskets. Progressive damage walks forward from there.

I'll be picking up a 05' in SoCal to work on it up here because he cant find a good mechanic. (Good friend of mine)

I had the same luck with my 04, while on deployment I had every possible issue addressed and "fixed" it right the first time at 55k miles.. studs, powermax turbo, the works.. tranny went at 64k so I got it built. "bulletproof" oil cooler failed at 65k and mixed oil and antifreeze.. in turn cracked a head. tore the heads off, replaced the one, cleaned everything including rebuilding the injectors. Had a rough idle at cold start after that. Found a great diesel tech since then, for all I know my old one might have been the problem. $20k may be a low estimate in what I spent after buying it lol. I got a smile for every dollar I spent on it though! (when it was on the road) Sold it to some 21 yo kid who took it straight to morgans corner truck pull and cracked the other head and still finished 4th out of 20+ trucks lol, truck was badass. I had my dream truck just the way I always wanted it, still have regrets about selling it but it ate every bit of my play money.. have a lot more money now. If you sell it you'll miss it but it might be for the best.

There are always exceptions. I suggest he not take up gambling.

My ag teacher in high school had one with 100 and some thousand on it without an issue. Seems to be a complete roll of the dice.

Lately my truck seems to think either I have too much disposable income, or I spend too much on fly rods. It has been starting to wear out little stuff and show its age. I really can't complain, it has been a good truck, but still the "nickel and diming" is getting old.

Three weeks ago it decided to blow a brake line, so I had to drive it 70 miles with no brakes. Now it has a fuel leak I need to fix. So I understand the situation.

I don't know if "once a lemon, always a lemon" but it does seem like there are "Friday vehicles" and "Wednesday vehicles".

When sentimental value enters into the equation logic may, and can, be ignored. I'd say if you sell the truck you will regret it someday. I've sold stuff I regret selling, it sucks, trust me. I'd say get a beater car if possible (I use that term loosely, so it don't necessarily mean a wore out car), maybe a TDI? Then you will not be so dependent on the truck.

Lastly, no cumminGs.

Reading through this is like the trilogy of Mr.T's 12 valve, I was into that pickup 16 grand total before I got sick of it and bought a duramax, alternator, starter, batteries, and cables......two times, ball joints and wheel bearings twice, new P-pump, air dog, headstuds, turbos, transmission once, two clutches, two transfer cases, a ring and pinion in the front axle.....etc.....etc......etc.....

The guy who owns it now has not had even ONE issue with it.......pisses me off

There is a company up in that area called Darkhorse motorsports. They seem very knowledgeable in the 6.0 area. Maybe call them next time you has motor issues?

One of these days I will figure out how people blow so much money on a swap.

THIS!^

Buddy of mine has a 6.0 and had to replace the injectors for the 3rd time. He priced out a 12v swap and it was 7 grand!

Sounds like your buddy is using junk aliant power remans

No idea. I don't know chit about 6.0s and don't claim to. i know they CAN be made reliable. It has to come back apart soon anyhow for some leaky head gaskets.

I'd love to get an extra vehicle. But literally all of my money I try to save ends up getting blown on repairs.
