P-Pump or Monster/Dragon VP?

150.5 to be exact. LOL

j-rod, my buddy broke even on his swap and in fact may have made a little money on it by the time he sold his VP, quad, smarty, injectors, and other parts for it. He bought a complete 12v motor and ended up selling enough parts off of it as well to cover it. So really if it's done right you could actually break even on the swap.

Very true. It basically comes down with how crazy you get with the pump setup...I was thinking building up a decent pump when I was doing the comparison in my earlier thread.

whats different about a modded 12v with a factory p pump and a 24v with a p pump? my 12v is streetable and it has way more hp than the majorty of the vp trucks.

Assuming stock heads (not worked), you have better air flow with the 24v head. Also, there is an advantage to having the injector in the center of the bowl as opposed to the side, but then there's that issue of having the fuel do a 90 degree turn to go down the injector. It's all debatable.

As far as your other comment, I think there is a big misunderstanding in that everyone thinks that the p-pumped trucks (12v or 24v) aren't streetable because they smoke too much. If it is set up and tuned well, they still can put down a lot of hp and be driven on the street.

Granted, I've never towed with my truck, but I can't see it being any worse. Smoke is absolutely controllable with the AFC, my EGT's are the same as it was with the VP (except at WOT, more fuel), and it drove better than my II HRVP did. When we did our dyno day, I did 450/900 with plate and GSK and gutted AFC (i think that hurt me) and a 62mm turbo, torque peak was around the 2500 rpm mark. The trucks running twins who were in the low 500 hp range had torquein the mid to high 800's. Was a Dynojet dyno.

If you can find a 12v to rob parts from, the only other thing you will need is the hi pressure lines and the cam sensor kit. Sell off the 12v parts and the 24v parts, and you could even come out ahead.

I know I could just sell all of my stuff & buy a P-pump etc., but I'm afraid the P-pump won't allow me to tow. I just need to do more research & drive a modded P-pump truck to see what its like before I think about doing the swap. I'm gonna hold off where I'm at for now, atleast till my vp dies. I also want to see what Quad can do for me before I change.

Dont worry after we start layin it to all these ppumps on the track they will be switching back to a VP! LOL

Thanks for leaving me on my own! I appreciate that!

OK

Then when im laying it to all the ppumps! COME GETCHA SOME! LOL

LOL I'm just in a good mood tonight and am getting everyone riled up. I'm sure i'll get beat by VP's this year due to a number of reasons, but I guarantee it wont be due to a VP truck just plain outpowering me.

before i do anything i need to get my new driveline out of the living room and in the truck

I won't lie, I've beat many P-pumped trucks. One is a dually turning 4k+. I'm not afraid of em', don't get me wrong....I just know that they can go alot further in hp than a vp can. I don't like to bite off more than I can chew.:hehe:

But back on topic VP>PPump What is everyone going to do when a VP wins TS, and scheid this year???

VP won 2.6 at TS in 07

it wont happen again...mark my words

im aware of the differance lol it can be argued all day about which head is better......but there is a LOT of HIGH hp 12v's. :bang

i think a p pump is more street friendly that a hotrod vp, a lot smoother, and like you said smoke can be controled with the afc.

cant remember his name, blue truck, big FASS sticker on the side. one of the early monster pumps i believe. i think he has since went to a 12v or at least p-pump

I think he just moved up a class but believe he still runs a VP pump on that truck but not to sure?? Either way truck looks good and if it is a VP truck it competes very well in the top classes! Darren Smith and jeff Strothcamp had 2 of the best running VP's around! as for a VP winning TS??? Umm No!
Tory

Tory dont know what he is talking about, the blue fass truck is ppumped now!

I'm gonna be different, I bet a Common Rail wins it this year! :poke: followed by P-pump truck then a VP44 somewhere behind... LOL
