If appearantly everyone on here is telling you it's not a South bend Clutch I would contact whoever sold it to you since they are lying?

that would be peter at south bend or is the another clutch company with a guy named peter

If I could ask, what kind of clearance did you have between the floater plates and the flywheel. I am talking about the four fingers that protrude out into the flywheel. The guys at SBC could not tell us what they needed to be even after having trouble with it hanging. We had anywhere from .002-.016 on the one we got back from SBC that was supposed to have been redone and checked for problems. We opened them up to .020 as we felt it definitely needed more than .002. Especially with the heat the plates will build when coming off the line. I was not impressed with the lack of answers that came with such an overpriced item to have trouble with.

I edited your 1st post....if it's NOT a South Bend clutch do NOT come on here portraying it as one just to make SBC look bad.
like i said a SOUTH BEND! NOT GENERIC!

Question is....Were did you get it from?

That Flywheel is NOT a SBC, the pressure plate sure does look like one. Kinda looks like a very old version of a South Bend Clutch.

After it's been rebuilt by someone else...it's no longer a South Bend.
If I have an ATS trans rebuilt by NAPD...it's then an NADP trans...ya follow my line of thinking ?

If you had shown pics beore the rebuild....I wouldn't had changed a thing but to call it a SBC part afer the rebuild is misleading.

You need way more than .002. You may be OK for awhile at .020, but does not leave much room for wear. I would open it up to 1/4 inch, or send it back to Peter to be machined correctly.

i bought a 3850 dd south bend from a buddy of mine that bought it brand new from sbc it was orginally for a g56 and the flywheels are not the same for a nv5600 so when i tried to swap out flywheels with sbc he would do it unless let him rebuild it too so when i got it back from sbc it was sfi approved and already to go in the flywheel, disc, floater, plate and pressure plate are all orignal parts from sbc the inlay and pads are the only new parts i had got it in november of last year

check out my old generic dd

X2

The clutch you are referring to has been redone by another clutch company and now should not be referred to as a South Bend Clutch. Thanks for your understanding

Peter

:what: This is Peter from SBC stating that it isn't a SBC nor was it rebuilt by them.

Coming from the guys that said the Ohio Cat and Scheid Mod truck don't smoke:bang?

Coming from the VP guy that's arguing with me (the p-pump guy) via internet. I tune trucks, not change chip settings. I never said they didn't smoke, I said they burned clean.. Grey smoke and flame at the end of the stack dissipating into black smoke....:bang Like I said, watch them pull at night..

i know whatcha are sayin ,i called 3 different places on triple disc clutches
sbc said $3500 if i send my old dual disc $500 off and lil more cause it was his clutch $? with a total of $2750
dan at valair told me i was beyond a IG and he was tryin out a weighted triple priced at $2300 but he said it wasnt very street friendly (dan was very staight foward and really nice guy and have have heard nothing but great stuff about him and his product.)
kenny said $1800 for non weighed street triple so me and my buddy both bought one both identical and they was $3600 for 2
it works great very steetable smoother, quieter, and easier to push than my dads stock clutch and got me 1st twice this past weekend

How are you overpowering an Iron Gaint??????

They have been behind truck with 2x the power of yours and hold up fine (not bashing, just stating)

And that flywheel doesnt look anything like any south bend unit.....

LOL

So "tuning" a VP-44 just involves changing chip settings? :hehe: Why have I spent so much time dialing in those VP's then and who makes these "chips"?

i dont if he's overpowering it, i dont remember i think he said he was close to 800 hp, or a combination of hp and running a really big of gear for a dual disc to stay up,it would also depend on how long you had to ride it out of the hole. also we run our floater plates from .010-.020 tolerence lug to flywheel, to tight it hangs and too loose it's really loud. I run a triple disc in my truck and i dont have near that much power, but even a 4 low pull with .355 it doesnt even seem to phase it as to where the dual disc would be hard to get in and out of gear and the end of the track, the triple acted like it didnt even phase it. :what:I've watched them pull at night no flame? The grey smoke they have that I have seen is right before they get on top of the Charger just like everyother mod truck.

Lynnville TN 38472. Sept 11th and 12th

I made 800hp at the first of the yea pushin mid 70psi done some more tweakin now higher 80 almost 90psi. I pull 5th gear. When I would come off the line I am off the clutch the dd would not lockup till around 75ft mark this triple locks up as soon as I am of the pedal
