Pulling clutch

I just want to clarify that I was in no way putting SBC down in any of my earlier posts. I was just stating that several people make a good clutch also. I have drivin a truck with a EEP, Terry shaffer PPE, and my truck with my SBC. IMHO the south bend is the smoothest of the three.

I also dont plan to ever run anything but southbend in my truck:rockwoot:

You WILL NOT beat SBC customer support:bow:

i currently run a sb dd 3850 in my 06 and a single disk in my 02 peter has always been very helpful if i ever had any questions. all the guys we pull with use south bend and swear by them. only way to go imo.

I will continue putting southbend clutches in also, i just believe that other clutches are better for pulling only.

I run a haisley's comp puller and love it. Here's something to think about. It has a weighted pressure plate that increases plate load the faster u spin motor. Now don't quote me on exact numbers but Van told me something like this...3000rpm's - 3600# 4000Rpm's - 4400# 5000Rpm's - 6200# and so on. Also peter puts a horsepower rating on all his clutches...Haisley's doesn't have a horsepower rating. Dave Radzierez had darn near 100 hooks on his comp puller before he went to the tube chassis and never had 1 problem. I'm not putting down peter's stuff in fact I run one in my daily driver and love it. I've just had awesome luck with my comp puller and know of tons of people thats had the same luck.

I am in no way going to put this truck on the road. Its only going to be a puller. I could care less about how smooth the clutch feels. I just dont want too spend a big hunk of money on a clutch that wont hold when i put 700 to 1000 hp to it with a sled behind the truck.

Can someone exlpain the different types of clutch. I am confused about the lever style. What other types are out there.

I have had real good luck with the sbc clutch. i run a three disk and have had no problems. Launching at 5700 plus maintaining 5500 to 6000 rpm down the track at over 1000 horse no issues. You get to a point the dual disks are not enough, too many rpm or too much power, but Peters triple will hold.

There's the diaphragm type of clutch...similar to the factory setup.

And props to Peter.....he'll stand behind his product 110%!!! He's done me right, trying to get my SB DD to work with my Common Rail and ZF6!!!

Did somebody say Iron Giant III :rockwoot:

Safety Tip: Please lift with your legs not your back :)

I have a Haisley 4 disk comeing for our supermod 2wd puller.

Dale

If memory serves correctly: Longer input shaft (10"), bell housing adaptor, starter spacer, and some slight trimming of the floor area to clear the shifter backwards slightly.

BBD

Here is the Iron Giant II compared to the Iron giant III showing the need for the starter spacer and longer input shaft.

I've run Kenny's triple disk for the past two years. It's weighted, and I drive it on the street everyday. I've owned EEP's (old non-sfi), haisley's street twin, and Kenny's. Kenny's has the smoothest engagement on the street, it is honestly as smooth as stock. Pedal pressure is light too, in stock form it's probably only 3000#. Sintered iron disks are used by top fuel. If they can take that abuse, my 24 valver will never hurt them.
BTW, Kenny and powerpartsengineering.com's triple are basically the same clutch.

Scott,
Anything special with that Ramcharger in the backround??
(Just curious, B/C I have 3 of them. LOL)

Michael

That's J&H's ramcharger, its pretty out of control, the last time I saw it, it destroyed (and I mean destroyed) a transmission. But that was a couple of years ago.

Tom wasn't you a 6-speed? If so what clutch did you sport or is that top secret?

Diesel????

Michael

The Ramcharger belongs to Harvey of J&H as Tom mentioned and its currently just sitting, it was a 12 valve CTD but I belive its been pulled to be rebuilt.

My dream was to build a ramcharger out of the 3 trucks, but then my 97 cost me so much money(carnage then upgrades LOL) I sold them to my brother

Now he caught the diesel bug with his 99 and the ramcharger has been put on the back burner

frame is painted with chevy 1 tons underneath and a 8" skyjacker and 38" Boggers so far

Ok back to the clutches

I like my south bend :rockwoot:
